Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, no weekends

The Genetic Counselor counsels patients and families about genetic diseases, genetic testing procedures and test results; works in association with medical director and other clinicians regarding the information discussed with patients. Provides access to resources for medical interventions, grief counseling, and supportive follow-up as needed.

What You'll Do

Job responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate closely with ordering physicians and outpatient specialty providers to coordinate genetic counseling services, testing, and patient care plans.
  • Evaluate patient and family histories, recommend and order appropriate genetic testing, and facilitate seamless transitions of care through provider referrals.
  • Interpret genetic test results and communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to patients and their families in a clear and compassionate manner.
  • Manage a patient caseload of approximately 5 to 6 patients per day, providing counseling, education, and ongoing support as needed.
  • Support the growth and development of the Genetic Counseling program through partnership with the pediatric specialties and collaborating healthcare organizations.


What We're Looking For

  • Education: Graduate Degree, required. Master's Degree in Genetic Counseling or related field.
  • Experience: One year of cancer genetic counseling experience, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Board certified or eligible for Genetic Counseling, required. American Board of Genetic Counseling OR the American Board of Medical Genetics, required.
  • Additional Skills/Requirements (required): Possess sufficient knowledge to interpret and discuss genetic test procedures, results and genetic diseases in terms understandable by patients. Possess management skills to accept responsibility and make decisions. Promote and maintain compatible working relationships among personnel in the section. Communicate well with other health care professionals, patients and families. Effective communication skills listening, writing, talking, and reading. Ability to maintain patience and confidentiality. Ability to work efficiently and accurately. Ability to organize and plan work.
