
Genetic Counselor- Clinical Genomics
The Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunologyat Vanderbilt University Medical Center seeks an ABGC or ABMG certified/eligible genetic counselor to develop andoversee the Vanderbilt Medical Laboratories (VML) Genetic Testing Stewardship Program (GTSP)This is a faculty position at the level of Assistant in Pathology, Microbiology and ImmunologyExperience with interpretation ofnext generation sequencing (NGS)-basedtesting of constitutional andor oncology specimens is required, along with strong interpersonal skills
The dynamic GTSP team includes medical directors, an operational manager and laboratory technologists and assistants, who will work collaboratively with clinicians and genetic counselors at VUMC to optimize genetic testing for VUMC patients. Key responsibilities for the genetic counselor include
Under general supervision, is responsible for review and feedback on genetic tests ordered for VUMC patients, suggesting alternative testing options and/or laboratories, as appropriate
Coordinateswith VUMC clinicians to educate on appropriateness of genetic testing
Identifies and monitors key metrics for the GTSP
Provides guidance to clinical staff regarding genetic testing and interpretation and maintains collaborations with internal and external partners to facilitate specialty genetic testing
Ensures the laboratory isup-to-date with advances in genetics and genomics and applying knowledge in clinical content
Serves as a resource for financial counselor for questions on genetic testing
Participates in development and maintenance of clinical workflows and processes
Participates in development of genetic testing policies and procedures
Participates in education of medical students, residents, fellows and genetic counselor students
Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
