Job Description

Assists genetic counselors in providing support to patients and families by collecting and organizing medical information, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate records. Essential Functions:

• Provides excellent service to both internal and external customers by applying best practices and standard operating procedures.
• Prepares correspondence, documents, reports and other materials which may be moderately complex or confidential, sometimes requiring independent judgment. Schedules appointments for department staff as appropriate.
• Obtain applicable records and results from outside providers and laboratories.
• Communicates with families regarding pre-clinic information, insurance prior authorization, sample collection, result disclosure, future plan and updates to families at the direction of clinical staff.
• Manages lists of established genetics patients and monitors status of pending clinical work-up.
• Manages entering patient data in Ohio Department of Health and other research-based databases.
• Works cross functionally with laboratories, genetic counselors, clinicians and others regarding testing, status updates, delays, referrals, and sample collection.

Education Requirement:

Associate’s degree, required.

Skills:

Exhibits basic knowledge of family structure and questioning for effective intake of relevant information.

Experience:

Previous academic studies in genetics, biology, or another science related field desired.
