Responsible for supporting genetic counselors’ clinical activities and research studies, often acting as the first point of contact for patients seeking genetic counseling services. Responsible for supporting genetic counselors, investigators, project managers, and other research staff on a variety of current research projects. Works under the supervision of the clinical and research personnel as required.

Job Duties:

  • Assists with genetic testing coordination and result disclosure for both clinical and research testing, communicating genetic screening/testing results to both patients and providers.
  • Collects relevant clinical information, triages incoming referrals, prepares documentation for genetic counseling use, and assists in patient scheduling to ensure appropriate referrals for genetic counseling.
  • Collects relevant personal and family history information and documents pedigrees in the electronic health record.
  • Assists genetic counselors in day-to-day clinical activities and administrative tasks to support efficient clinical workflows.
  • May assist in coordinating a multidisciplinary clinic, which includes scheduling, appointment confirmations, collating patient records for the clinicians to review, helping present patients in monthly meetings, coordinating with procedure scheduling for the patients, and facilitating appointments to other clinics.
  • Assists the principal investigators in day-to-day project activities such as maintaining study documentation, attending study meetings, etc. under the supervision of a principal investigator.
  • Completes data management tasks guided by written protocols and updates protocols as needed. Additionally, conducts data analysis under the supervision of a genetic counselor.
  • Assists with participant recruitment and ongoing participant engagement and follow-up.
  • Conducts literature searches and fact-finding research to support project development. May assist with qualitative data analysis. May assist with research abstracts and manuscripts. May prepare participant correspondence and newsletters.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Position Details:

Degree Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required; strong interest in pursuing graduate level academic training in Genetic Counseling or related health field.
  • Preferred Undergraduate coursework should include at least 3 courses in biology including general genetics, 1 course in psychology, and 1 course in general statistics.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Demonstrated moderate to advanced computer skills required and will be assessed at time of hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic research methodology and research data collection preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic genetic concepts and familiarity with genetic counseling practices and terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage task prioritization effectively.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, including communicating clearly and sensitively with patients, families, referring clinicians, and research colleagues.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to professional growth.
