Generator Technician - Harwich Port, MA - $35-45ph (based on experience) plus great benefits!
The Generator Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial standby power systems and related components. This role ensures reliability and safety of generator systems while maintaining customer satisfaction and compliance with company standards, codes, and regulations.Functions include, but are not limited to the following:Essential Duties and Responsibilities:· The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair standby and portable generator systems (diesel, natural gas, and propane).

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, load bank testing, and system inspections.
  • Install new generator systems, including wiring, transfer switches, fuel connections, and startup commissioning.
  • Conduct voltage, frequency, and phase checks to ensure proper operation.
  • Perform control wiring and circuit troubleshooting using schematics and multimeters.
  • Test batteries, regulators, relays, sensors, and other electrical components.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, work orders, and inspection forms via ServiceTitan.
  • Respond to emergency service calls, including after-hours or on-call rotation as scheduled.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and tools; ensure vehicles and equipment are kept in safe working condition.
  • Follow OSHA and company safety protocols at all times, including lockout/tagout and PPE requirements.
  • Communicate clearly with dispatch, management, and customers regarding job status and findings.

Support Responsibilities:

  • Assist with installation layout and field measurements.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and estimating teams for system upgrades or retrofits.
  • Mentor apprentices or junior technicians on safety and repair techniques.
  • Participate in technical and safety training programs.
  • Support storm-response or emergency-power deployments as needed.

Requirements Education & Training:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Trade school, electrical, or mechanical certification preferred.
  • Factory training with major manufacturers (Generac, Kohler, Cummins, CAT, etc.) a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience servicing standby generator systems or equivalent electrical/mechanical service background.
  • Familiarity with control systems, load testing equipment, and generator fuel systems.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • OSHA 10 (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Electrical Journeyman or Gas Technician license (state-specific, if required).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read blueprints, electrical diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and local electrical/gas codes.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong time management and self-motivation to work independently.
  • Competency in mobile service software (FieldEdge, ServiceTitan, etc.).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs., bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces or outdoors in all weather.
  • Regular exposure to mechanical/electrical hazards, fumes, and noise (PPE required).
  • Driving to job sites across assigned territory.


Compensation: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
