Idaho Power — located in Mountain Home, Idaho — is looking for a Generation Specialist to join our Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine (RICE) maintenance and operation team. What does a RICE Generation Specialist do for us?
With minimal supervision, they perform the necessary daily operating and maintenance functions essential for the safe and efficient operation of the reciprocating engine plants and facilities. Additionally, they perform large engine overhaul maintenance and maintenance of ancillary equipment of the plant. They complete assigned tasks and assume a lead role when required. They also ensure generation availability to satisfy system loads (this is a remote and locally operated peaking facility).

· Fundamental electrical theory and the function, operation, troubleshooting and repair of complex equipment through use of drawings and instructional manuals
· Operations and/or Maintenance of power plants
· Inspection and maintenance of heavy equipment
· Welding and fabrication, large reciprocating engine maintenance
· Computing systems, software, and programs, such as Microsoft Office
· Maintain high productivity with minimal supervision
· Perform heavy manual labor in adverse conditions
· Communicate effectively
· Establish positive working relationships in a team-based environment
· Conflict resolution
· Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours
· High school diploma or GED
· Certificate of completion of a Generation Specialist training program that is recognized by the Bureau of Office of Apprenticeship (OA)
· 3 years of experience in power plant operations and/or maintenance
· 3 years large diesel engine maintenance
o Direct work experience in maintenance of power plants, mines, or other industrial applications
o AAS in Diesel/Onsite Power Generation or Certifications in heavy machinery maintenance, marine diesel maintenance, ASE certified Large Diesel Engine Mechanic
· Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
· Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire
· Must complete IPC Thermal Operations Accreditation program within 18 months of hire
This job will require occasional, physically strenuous work for long periods of time and in adverse weather conditions. Job requires the ability to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, crawl, climb ladders and into and out of vehicles, twist, kneel, balance and reach. Rarely lift shoulder-high and above items weighing up to 50 lbs.; rarely lifting waist-high and knee-high items weighing up to 75 lbs. Occasionally use exertional force of up to 50 lbs. to push/pull items. Rarely carry items with one hand weighing up to 50 lbs. or items weighing up to 75 lbs. with two hands. Requires the ability to operate a vehicle. Must be able to grasp and hold simple hand tools and other materials and use fine motor skills to use a computer keyboard and handle small hand tools. Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat of harm to self, others, or property. The job requires the ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts (days and nights 7 days a week) at Bennett Mountain Expansion Plant in Mountain Home, Idaho or South Hills Plant Milner Idaho. Requires the ability to respond to emergencies outside of and/or more than normal working hours within a 60-minute time frame. Ability to work scheduled overtime during major engine overhauls. Requires occasional travel with overnight stays. Job requires the employee to obtain and wear company provided and approved safety footwear and FR clothing.
