Job Description
Electric Operations Overhead is seeking a full-time General Utility Worker (GUW) to support crews in the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of overhead distribution equipment on energized high voltage systems.
Core Responsibilities
- Electric Operations Overhead is seeking to hire a full-time General Utility Worker (GUW) to assist employees in higher titles with performing work on installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of overhead distribution equipment on live high voltage wires.
- Selected candidate for this posting will be assigned in regions of Bronx/ Westchester.
- Candidate must possess the ability to work at high elevations and work around live electricity to perform electrical and mechanical functions.
- Work assigned shifts may include weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to meet the operational needs of the department.
- Selected candidate will be expected to positively represent the company in resolving customer concerns.
- Selected candidate will be expected to advance in the Line Constructor High Voltage (HV) title career track with Electric Operations, and are expected to complete driving school, and obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL). Region may require CDL Restricted Class A or CDL Class A and/or M endorsement license.
- Selected candidate should exercise safe work practices while adhering to environmental policies and procedures.
- To qualify for this position candidate must successfully complete a series of assessments which includes: aptitude/written driver's assessment, physical abilities test, five-day pole climbing assessment, and interview.
- Candidate will be required to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) weighing between 10,000-26,000 pounds. If extended a conditional job offer, candidate will need to pass a DOT physical exam and will be prohibited from using marijuana.
- Candidate must pass a respirator fit test.
- If extended a conditional job offer, candidate will be required to obtain certifications from the American Red Cross for standard First-Aid/CPR/AED & Blood Borne pathogens at their own cost.

Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Perform extended driving through heavy traffic and severe off-road conditions
- Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
- Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Ability to use hand tools and operate heavy machinery, i.e. jackhammers
- Acknowledge that if selected, must pass a Physical Abilites Test (PAT)
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
- Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
