General Technician - Prentiss, AB

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the General Technician is responsible for assisting in the safe completion of day to day activities at the Prentiss Air Separation Plant. This is a skilled entry level position with training and development opportunities for advancement

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure safe work practices are followed and maintained with a specific focus on the truck loading area.
  • Responsible for the accurate completion of truck loading paperwork
  • Assist with general maintenance activities alongside mechanical, instrument/electrical and operations technicians as required.
  • Labour tasks including cleaning, painting, snow shoveling, garbage removal and yard maintenance.
  • General plant tidying and clean-up

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ABSA 4th Class Power Engineer is asset but not required.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract.
  • Experience or willing to learn the operation of forklifts, zoom booms, overhead cranes and lifting devices.
  • Must be able to complete work activities utilizing safe work practices and be able to understand and follow company policies.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to understand how things work. General mechanical background and small tool usage experience.
  • Ability to take verbal directions and instruction.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with industry standard computer software (MS Word, Excel)
  • Ability to read and follow equipment drawings (P&ID’s) is an asset but not required.
  • Good understanding of the English language including verbal, written, and reading skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn new tools and equipment.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work at heights and within confined spaces when required.
  • Ability to work variable hours including overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements including lifting up to 20-50 lbs., bending, crouching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods of time
  • Preference to candidates that currently live within 40km of the plant site.
