Duties & Responsibilities

STMicroelectronics Malta is seeking a skilled and motivated General Services Maintenance Engineer to join our Central Construction Facility Services team.

You will take technical ownership of the facility’s non-manufacturing infrastructure, ensuring the seamless operation, compliance, and preventative upkeep of our building services. Your focus will span safety installations—such as fire suppression and detection systems—domestic water safety, space management, and office environment optimization. You will act as a collaborative partner and coach, driving technical excellence, system reliability, and environmental efficiency across the site while supporting our cross-functional teams and external contractors with a positive, motivating approach.

In this role, you will report directly to the Head of General Services, working collaboratively to maintain and elevate our facility’s infrastructure. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Fire Infrastructure Ownership: Directly oversee the routine testing, certification, and preventative maintenance of all site fire detection, alarm networks, and automated fire suppression systems (e.g., sprinklers, gas suppression).
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure 100% compliance with local and international fire safety codes, maintaining comprehensive documentation, audit readiness, and acting as a primary technical contact for authority inspections.
  • Water System Governance: Manage the upkeep, chemical dosing, and testing protocols for all domestic and drinking water distribution networks, ensuring total compliance with health and anti-legionella standards.
  • Building Services & Environment: Coordinate the maintenance and repair of office lighting networks, secondary electrical distribution, plumbing, civil infrastructure, and building fabric comfort.
  • Space & Asset Management: Support facility space management initiatives, coordinating office churns, layout modifications, and furniture/equipment logistics to optimize the employee workplace experience.
  • Contractor Oversight: Supervise specialized external facility contractors and service providers, ensuring that maintenance SLAs are met safely, efficiently, and within technical specifications.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM) Scheduling: Develop, track, and execute robust PM schedules within the site's computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to eliminate unexpected facility downtime.
  • Inspiring Team Motivator: Guide and support internal technicians and external contractors, adopting a coaching and collaborative leadership approach that builds team morale and avoids adversarial or aggressive management styles.
  • EHS Alignment: Ensure all facility maintenance activities are performed under strict Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and Permit-to-Work systems to guarantee the safety of the team and subcontractors.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering, or a highly relevant technical discipline. Possession of local Electrical Wireman Licenses (A and B) will be considered a distinct asset.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep hands-on experience and technical knowledge in managing building services, fire protection infrastructure, plumbing networks, and facility utilities within a large industrial or corporate environment.
  • Proven Experience: Significant background in facilities engineering, non-manufacturing maintenance, or technical project management within a fast-paced setting.
  • People Management & Collaboration: A proven track record of effectively managing and coordinating diverse groups of external service providers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Constructive, Collaborative Approach: An engaging style focused on coaching and empowering teams, driving facility reliability and safety performance through strong communication, positive reinforcement, and mutual respect.
  • Continuous Improvement: Demonstrated ability to spearhead data-driven operational improvements (e.g., energy efficiency upgrades, water reduction, automated service workflows) to optimize facility performance.
  • Communication: Possess exceptional communication skills in English, both verbal and written, with the ability to manage technical documentation accurately and work independently in a dynamic, shifting environment.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the structural reliability and safety culture of our non-manufacturing infrastructure, balancing technical compliance with a supportive, human-centric approach to facility management. If you are ready to drive value and sustainability across our site services, we look forward to reviewing your application.
