
Under general supervision, performs journey level work by painting, finishing, and maintaining a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces and structures. Prepares surfaces for painting and finishing; applies undercoats and finish coats using the full range of application methods and materials; mixes and matches paints and finishes; performs soda and water blasting; maintains a clean environment and participates in the selection and proper storage of painting materials.

EDUCATION:
Graduation from high school (or GED), supplemented by completion of a Union, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes related theory and on-the-job work.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Massachusetts Plumbing License required, and three to five years of specialty experience. ) Other licenses would be a plus, Forklift operation certification, lock out tag out, confined space, MSDS, asbestos and lead identification, ladder safety, emergency evacuation, in-house OSHA and respirator training, infection control.
EXPERIENCE:
At least three years as a journey-level painter in either a residential, commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting, with experience in both interior and exterior painting
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledgeable in various painting methods and practices; ability to properly mix and match paints and varnishes, apply finishes to a wide variety of surfaces; estimate wait times and materials required on widely varied assignments. Basic computer proficiency to keep computerized records and prepare reports. Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions in English and ability to read, comprehend, and work from plans and blueprints. Highly organized and ability to maintain proper productivity and workflow for multiple projects. Must be a team player and able to maintain cooperative working relationships. Demonstrated sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population. Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the trade. Must be able to safely handle hazardous materials.
Compensation Range:
$36.21- $57.38
