The General Supervisor of RP Technical Programs leads the technical administration of the Radiation Safety program, ensuring all site operations maintain rigorous regulatory compliance with NRC, DOT and State mandates. This role directs a team of Health Physicists and specialists to oversee the technical integrity of personnel dosimetry, the maintenance of the RP instrumentation, and the compliant characterization and shipment of radioactive waste. This position also provides oversight of the Radiation Protection Department continuous improvement program including the corrective action and self-assessment programs.

What You'll Do:

  • Regulatory Oversight: Ensure the site’s Radiation Protection Program strictly adheres to the Updated Final Safety Analysis Report (UFSAR) and NRC 10 CFR Part 20.
  • Instrumentation & Dosimetry: Manage the technical standards for the calibration, maintenance, and operation of radiation detection equipment and the station's external and internal dosimetry programs.
  • Technical Reviews: Lead the development and technical review of complex radiological work packages, shielding evaluations, and dose assessment modeling.
  • Rad-waste Characterization: Provide high-level oversight for the classification and characterization of radioactive waste streams according to 10 CFR Part 61 standards.
  • Shipping Compliance: Ensure the Radwaste Shipper maintains rigorous adherence to DOT 49 CFR and NRC regulations for the safe transport of radioactive materials.
  • Programmatic Health: Oversee the CAP Coordinator to ensure departmental trends are identified, condition reports are thoroughly investigated, and effective corrective actions are implemented.
  • Self-Assessments: Direct the department's self-assessment and benchmarking programs to ensure the RP program remains at industry-leading standards.
  • Procedure Governance: Manage the lifecycle of technical procedures, ensuring they incorporate technical updates and regulatory changes without compromising operational efficiency.
  • Team Development: Provide technical mentorship and performance management for the Health Physicist, Radwaste Shipper, and CAP Coordinator.
  • Inter-departmental Liaison: Serve as the primary technical consultant for Engineering and Operations on matters of source term management and radiological hardware.

What We're Looking For:

  • Education: B.S. in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related physical science.
  • Experience:
    • 7–10 years in the commercial nuclear power industry with a focus on Applied Health Physics.
    • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or senior technical lead role.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certifications:

  • NRRPT (National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists) is highly desired.
  • CHP (Certified Health Physicist) certification from the American Board of Health Physics is a significant plus.

Other Requirements:

  • Perform duties that may involve work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.
