Job Description

A public sector client of ours is seeking a General Operative to join their team across projects in Limerick & Clare.

This role offers an hourly rate of €20.71 per hour.

This is an agency contract role, with up to 24 months of work ahead.

Responsibilities:

  • Support site-based construction and maintenance works by carrying out general groundworks,
  • material handling, and dumper operations in a safe, efficient, and compliant manner. The role
  • contributes to the delivery of civil engineering and flood relief projects in line with health and
  • safety, environmental, and quality standards.

1. General Site Duties

  • Undertake general groundworks including excavation, grading, pipe laying,
  • concreting, kerbing, paving, duct installation, and backfilling.
  • Assist with the installation of drainage systems, embankments, culverts, headwalls,
  • and associated works.
  • Operate power tools as necessary and to the level of training provided.
  • Prepare work areas, set up site fencing, signage, and traffic management as
  • required.
  • Load, unload, and handle materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Support trades and machine operators as directed by the Site Foreperson or
  • Engineer.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment, ensuring proper
  • housekeeping at all times.

2. Site Dumper Operations

  • Operate site dumpers and other small plant in a competent and safe manner in
  • accordance with site rules and manufacturer guidance.
  • Transport excavated material, stone, concrete, and other loads within the site
  • efficiently.
  • Conduct daily plant checks, report defects promptly, and ensure equipment is
  • maintained in good working order.
  • Comply with all plant operation safety procedures and exclusion zone protocols

3. Health & Safety

  • Undertake work in accordance with site-specific Safe Systems of Work, Risk
  • Assessments, and the OPW Safety Statement.
  • Wear and maintain appropriate PPE and ensure others on site do likewise.
  • Report near misses, unsafe acts, and hazards promptly to supervision.
  • Contribute to maintaining site environmental controls (silt protection, waste
  • management, and pollution prevention).
  • Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings.

4. Site Support

  • Work collaboratively with site teams including General Operatives, Forepersons, and Engineers.
  • Take instruction from the Site Foreperson or Engineer and report progress or issues promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, subcontractors, and agency staff to achieve daily work targets.
  • Support less experienced staff and promote good site discipline and teamwork.

5. Quality and Efficiency

  • Follow site drawings, levels, and instructions to ensure accurate completion of works.
  • Contribute to efficient sequencing of site operations and minimal rework.
  • Communicate effectively with the site team regarding progress, issues, or potential improvements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil engineering, groundworks, drainage, or flood
  • defence works, or similar.
  • Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certification.
  • Valid training necessary to the role required (dumper, roller, chainsaw, teleporter
  • etc).
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and undertake physically
  • demanding tasks.
  • Commitment to teamwork and safe work practices.
