General Operative / Loop General Operative (Shift)

What you will do

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated General Operatives / Loop General Operatives to join our Dublin field operations team.

This is a hands-on, physically demanding role working within a fast-paced operational environment, supporting the installation, maintenance, and repair of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) infrastructure across the road network.

Working as part of a close-knit team, you will help deliver safety-critical roadside and motorway technology that keeps traffic moving safely and efficiently. The role involves a mixture of installation, maintenance, civil works, reactive fault response, and workshop preparation activities.

You will work on a shift pattern supporting operational requirements and will play an important role in maintaining high standards of safety, workmanship, and customer service.

Shift Pattern (20% shift allowance is paid)

  • Monday to Thursday: 17:30 – 02:00
  • Friday: 17:30 – 01:00

Key responsibilities include:

  • Installing and maintaining ITS and CITS equipment to a high standard
  • Carrying out loop cutting, installation, and commissioning works
  • Attending faults and reactive maintenance activities appropriate to your training level
  • Assisting with installation and repair works on roadside technology equipment
  • Supporting civil works associated with operational and project requirements
  • Preparing, assembling, and testing equipment within the workshop environment
  • Carrying out lamping, cleaning, inspections, and routine maintenance activities
  • Completing site surveys and inspections
  • Ensuring all project paperwork, time sheets, job sheets, and documentation are completed accurately and returned on time
  • Maintaining company vehicles, tools, equipment, and PPE in a safe and serviceable condition
  • Supporting trainees, apprentices, and colleagues through guidance and knowledge sharing
  • Following all company Quality, Health & Safety, Security and Environmental procedures at all times

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Work outdoors on live roadside and infrastructure environments
  • Support installation and maintenance activities across ITS projects and reactive works
  • Carry out physical and practical tasks including civil works and equipment installation
  • Work safely at heights and within live traffic environments
  • Ensure safe working practices and RAMS are followed at all times
  • Prepare and organise materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles for daily activities
  • Attend training courses and toolbox talks to support ongoing development
  • Work collaboratively with technicians, engineers, and operational teams to deliver successful project outcomes
  • Assist in achieving maintenance KPIs and operational targets

Qualifications

What we are looking for

Essential:

  • Civils, construction, or infrastructure experience
  • Full B & C driving licence
  • Machine or plant operator experience
  • Ability to work outdoors in a physical role
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexible approach to shift work, standby, and callout rotas
  • Strong safety awareness and commitment to safe working practices
  • SOLAS Safe Pass
  • Reliable, motivated, and professional attitude

Desirable:

  • Electrical or electronic servicing training
  • Basic understanding of ITS site installations
  • Abrasive Wheels training
  • CSCS Signing, Lighting & Guarding at Roadworks
  • CSCS Location of Underground Services
  • Previous experience within the traffic industry or similar field-based environment
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges
