General Manager (Transit Operations)

MTM Transit is seeking an experienced General Manager to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for a large-scale transportation contract. This role is responsible for ensuring exceptional service delivery, regulatory compliance, financial performance, client satisfaction, and employee engagement.

As the General Manager, you will serve as the key liaison between MTM Transit, our client, and internal support teams while leading a workforce of more than 100 employees in a complex, fast-paced transit environment.

What You'll Do

Operational Leadership

  • Lead all aspects of contract operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant service delivery
  • Anticipate growth opportunities and develop strategies to support evolving client needs
  • Monitor operational performance, productivity, and service metrics
  • Identify operational risks and implement effective solutions
  • Ensure proper staffing levels and resource allocation to maximize efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Oversee development and execution of operational plans, procedures, and documentation

Client & Contract Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison between MTM Transit and the client
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and responsive service
  • Ensure contractual obligations and performance standards are consistently met
  • Develop and present annual business and operational reviews
  • Educate clients on MTM Transit services, industry trends, and operational improvements
  • Address concerns, issues, and escalations in a timely and professional manner

Leadership & Employee Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop management staff and frontline employees
  • Foster a culture centered on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and development opportunities
  • Support employee engagement, retention, and professional growth initiatives

Compliance & Safety

  • Maintain strict adherence to ADA, DOT, FTA, and company regulations
  • Oversee federally mandated Drug and Alcohol Program requirements
  • Ensure employee and vehicle files remain audit-ready and compliant
  • Promote and maintain a strong Safety First culture throughout the organization
  • Monitor compliance programs and ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of all MTM Transit departments and support functions
  • Maintain expertise regarding local transportation challenges and industry trends
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

What You'll Need

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 7+ years of senior leadership experience managing large-scale operations
  • Experience leading teams of 100+ employees
  • Experience managing multimillion-dollar service contracts including overseeing contractual service delivery and operational performance
  • Experience in paratransit, public transit, transportation, or mobility services
  • Contract and project management experience
  • Experience working within a union environment
  • Valid driver's license required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Exceptional leadership and relationship-building skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Experience managing budgets and financial performance metrics
  • Data analysis and reporting expertise
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines
  • Knowledge of ADA, DOT, and FTA regulations
  • Experience developing operational policies, procedures, and process improvements
  • Advanced computer proficiency and reporting systems knowledge
  • Strong confidentiality, professionalism, and business acumen
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize transit technology and routing systems

Compensation

Salary Range: $120,000 - $150,000 annually

Compensation is based on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, and geographic location. MTM Transit offers competitive pay and comprehensive benefits designed to support our employees both personally and professionally.
