Job Description

Nestled in the heart of Tasmania's World Heritage wilderness, Pumphouse Point and Derwent Bridge Hotel offer a once-in-a-career opportunity to lead two iconic destinations. From luxury wilderness accommodation and exceptional dining experiences to authentic Tasmanian hospitality, you'll play a key role in shaping the future of these unique properties while living and working in one of Australia's most breathtaking natural environments.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will take full responsibility for the operational, financial, guest experience and people performance of both properties. This is a true leadership-from-the-front opportunity, ideally suited to a hands-on hospitality professional who enjoys balancing strategy with day-to-day operations.

You'll build and develop a high-performing team, foster strong stakeholder and community relationships, drive innovation and guest satisfaction, and ensure the business delivers exceptional commercial results. From supporting a food and beverage service and assisting with group bookings to leading business planning and operational strategy, no two days will be the same.

What you’ll do

  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing team, fostering a positive culture focused on engagement, accountability and guest excellence
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of both Pumphouse Point and Derwent Bridge Hotel
  • Deliver an exceptional and consistent guest experience while identifying opportunities to enhance products and services
  • Drive financial performance through effective budgeting, forecasting, labour management and cost control
  • Assist in developing and executing annual business plans and strategic objectives
  • Establish, monitor and report on key business performance indicators
  • Manage guest feedback channels and use insights to continually improve the guest experience
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, training and succession planning initiatives with support from People & Culture
  • Develop strong stakeholder, tourism industry and community relationships, acting as a passionate ambassador for both properties and the NRMA brand
  • Identify opportunities for revenue growth, upselling, cross-selling and new product innovation
  • Oversee capital works and property improvement projects
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, legislative requirements, licensing obligations and operational standards
  • Lead workplace health and safety initiatives and maintain a strong safety culture across both properties
  • Proven ability to manage and develop staff of all levels

To help you make the most of this unique lifestyle opportunity, staff accommodation is available. As you'll be living and working in a remote location surrounded by Tasmania's stunning wilderness, you'll need your own reliable vehicle to explore the region and access nearby amenities.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven success as a General Manager, Assistant General Manager or senior hospitality leader within a premium hotel, resort or tourism operation
  • Extensive experience leading multi-department hotel operations including accommodation, food and beverage, guest services and commercial performance
  • Strong people leadership capability, with a demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and develop teams
  • A leadership style that is authentic, hands-on and engaging, with the ability to build trust and inspire others
  • Guest-centric and able to innovate in a premium environment, delivering a consistently flawless guest experience
  • Commercial acumen with a proven track record managing budgets, forecasting, P&L performance and operational efficiencies
  • Experience driving change, continuous improvement and business growth initiatives
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build lasting relationships across local communities, industry partners and internal teams
  • Demonstrated experience managing remote tourism or hospitality operations highly regarded
  • Qualifications in Hospitality, Tourism, Management or a related discipline
