Job Description

General Manager, People & Culture

Lead with pace. Deliver with impact. Shape the future of work.

At Aruma, purpose isn’t a statement — it’s what drives every decision we make.

Each day, we support thousands of people with disability to live the life they choose.

We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute General Manager, People & Culture to lead at pace, navigate complexity and deliver meaningful organisational outcomes.

This is a critical leadership role for someone who combines strategic clarity with decisive execution — and who is motivated by both impact and accountability.

Permanent Full-Time | Remote / Work From Anywhere | QLD, NSW, ACT or VIC

Why this opportunity stands out

This is not a traditional HR leadership role.

Aruma is undergoing significant transformation shaped by growth, sector evolution, and changing workforce expectations. You will operate at the centre of this, partnering closely with senior leaders to turn strategy into action.

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with Executive leaders to resolve complex business challenges with pace and confidence
  • Lead enterprise-wide workforce and culture initiatives that directly influence service quality and outcomes
  • Provide expert leadership across workplace relations and industrial matters, including high-risk and complex cases
  • Translate strategy into practical, scalable people solutions that deliver real impact
  • Build and lead a high-performing, commercially focused People & Culture function

What success looks like

You will be recognised for delivering results, not just intent.

Within your first 6–12 months, you will:

  • Establish credibility and influence across the Executive and operational leadership teams
  • Simplify decision-making and bring clarity to complex people challenges
  • Deliver measurable improvements in engagement, retention, and workforce performance
  • Strengthen the People & Culture function as a trusted, high-impact business partner
  • Lead and embed change initiatives that are sustainable, adopted, and effective

What you bring

You are a decisive, outcome-oriented leader with the judgement and resilience to operate in a complex, fast-paced environment.

You will demonstrate:

  • Extensive senior leadership experience in People & Culture / HR, ideally within large, multi-site or service-based organisations
  • A strong track record of executing strategy and delivering results at pace
  • Deep expertise in workplace relations, industrial frameworks, and negotiation
  • Highly developed commercial acumen with the ability to align people strategy to business performance
  • The ability to influence, challenge and partner effectively at Executive level
  • A clear bias for action, balanced by sound judgement and risk awareness

How you lead

Your leadership style will be critical to success.

You will thrive in this role if you:

  • Act with urgency, ownership, and accountability
  • Bring clarity and direction in ambiguous environments
  • Balance decisiveness with empathy and integrity
  • Build alignment and momentum across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Champion both high performance and a strong people-centric culture

At Aruma, we call this being BRAVE: Bold, Respectful, Accountable, Value Teamwork, Excellent.

Why Aruma

  • A genuine opportunity to contribute to a purpose-led organisation that changes lives
  • The scale and complexity to challenge and grow you as a leader
  • A leadership environment that values pace, courage, and outcomes
  • The ability to shape and influence the future of People & Culture during a period of transformation
