Job Description

Downer Rail & Transit Systems is seeking an experienced Operations General Manager to lead our Ormeau operations within the Queensland RTS business. This is a senior leadership role with full accountability for operational performance, safety, quality and people leadership.

Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Operations, you will play a critical role in executing the operations strategy, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and fostering a high-performing, Zero Harm culture across a complex, maintenance-led environment.

The Ormeau facility is a critical Queensland RTS site, supporting large‑scale rail operations. The site includes a purpose‑built maintenance facility, Ormeau plays a key role in enabling safe, high‑quality rollingstock maintenance activities and operational readiness as part of Queensland’s long‑term rail network growth.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Leading the execution of RTS operational strategy and annual business plans
  • Championing Zero Harm through visible, proactive safety leadership
  • Driving quality outcomes in line with Downer’s Quality Principles and Asset Management framework
  • Delivering operational efficiency, cost improvement initiatives and strong commercial results
  • Ensuring facilities, infrastructure and systems are maintained to support safe and effective operations
  • Building a high-performing leadership team through coaching, performance development and succession planning
  • Partnering closely with engineering, projects, finance, P&C, IR and recruitment teams
  • Engaging collaboratively with key external stakeholders, including QTMP and operational partners

What we’re looking for

  • Extensive senior operations and/or leadership experience (ideally 8+ years)
  • Background in rail preferred or associated transport or allied industries
  • Proven capability leading large, operationally complex teams
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, asset management principles and maintenance environments
  • Demonstrated experience driving quality, commercial and operational performance
  • Ability to lead financial reviews, audits and operational project reviews
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to influence at senior levels
  • Tertiary qualifications in Leadership & Management (or equivalent experience)
