Job Description

Master Builders is the peak industry association
representing building and construction in Queensland since 1882. With over
10,000 members we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional
to join our team.

As a senior leader
within the organisation, you will lead our Workplace Relations and Safety
teams, bringing strong, practical expertise and a deep understanding of
national and state workplace relations frameworks and workplace health and
safety laws.

With our teams
responding to up to 6,000 member enquiries each year, this is a hands-on
role. You will remain close to frontline
member issues, including directly supporting our team on member calls, ensuring
you maintain real-time insight into the challenges our members are facing.

You will play a
critical role as a subject matter expert, supporting the team on complex
matters and identifying opportunities to contribute constructively to policy development,
advocacy and member service.

This is an exciting
opportunity to influence meaningful outcomes for members and the broader industry,
particularly as the sector works through the implications of the CFMEU
administration and related changes across the industrial environment.

What your new
role will entail:

  • Lead the Workplace Relations and Safety teams as a senior organisational leader.
  • Apply strong practical expertise across national and state workplace relations and
    WHS legislation.
  • Maintain a hands-on role, directly supporting the team on member calls (up to 6,000
enquiries annually) to stay close to frontline issues.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on complex workplace relations and safety matters.
  • Use frontline insights to inform service delivery, policy development, and
    advocacy.
  • Contribute to meaningful outcomes for members and the broader sector, working with our
    policy committees and national office.
  • Drafting policy submissions and correspondence to government and industry stakeholders regarding legislative change.
  • Development of business unit plans to deliver new workplace relations/safety initiatives, products, and services for the industry.

What you will bring to the
team:

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualifications (Law, Human Resources, Workplace Health and Safety, Business, Commerce or similar).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in workplace relations, employee relations or industrial
    relations.
  • While not essential experience within a member-based industry association would be advantageous.
  • Deep and practical understanding of national and state workplace relations systems
and WHS legislation, with proven ability to interpret and apply legislative
    frameworks in operational settings.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability
to operate effectively in a politically sensitive or industrially active environment.
  • Experience leading frontline advisory or casework functions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey
complex industrial relations and safety matters to a range of audiences.
  • Experience in, or a strong working understanding of, workplace health and safety frameworks is highly regarded, noting that direct safety leadership experience is not essential if complemented by strong industrial relations expertise and the ability to quickly develop capability in this area.

But why join us?

It’s our brand - established in 1882 and
with more than 10,000 members, we represent some of Australia’s largest and
most successful builders and trade contractors.

that balance between work and life. As part of the team you can look forward to
enjoying:

  • A day off on your
    birthday
  • 1 day WFH
  • 10 paid YOU days per
year to rest and recharge (yes, that’s on top of your usual leave entitlement)
  • A competitive super
scheme to help boost your retirement savings
  • On-site brekky each
    day
