The job is a member of the ATH airport team within the Europe Operations division. The role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of airport operations, ensuring safety, security, performance, and customer service excellence, while leading teams, optimizing resources, ensuring compliance

What you'll do

  • Supervise and coordinate the performance of airport staff and contracted personnel across customer services, ticketing, operations, baggage handling, ramp, catering, and security, ensuring efficient and effective operations at ATH Airport
  • Manage staff schedules, training, performance appraisals, audits, and financial wellbeing, ensuring all personnel are aligned with American Airlines' operational goals and compliance standards
  • Motivate employees and align them with organizational goals, driving the achievement of station performance/service targets and company-wide objectives
  • Participate in employee hiring, promotions, discharges, and transfers to ensure that the team is appropriately staffed to meet operational needs and company goals
  • Build strong relationships with Alliance/oneworld partners, fostering synergies to enhance service quality and ensuring a seamless end-to-end customer experience
  • Maintain strong partnerships with contractors, suppliers, and airport authorities, ensuring the best service standards and operational efficiency for American Airlines
  • Compile reports on operational irregularities, service disruptions, or failures, providing suggestions for corrective action and presenting findings to senior management
  • Take on additional responsibilities at other regional stations as needed, including managing project work to improve overall operational efficiency and business optimization
  • Ensure American Airlines is professionally represented to airport authorities, other airlines, and the public, cultivating positive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Crisis leadership during strikes, weather events, operational disruptions, or emergency situations.
  • Organizational culture building: recognition, communication, and engagement initiatives.
  • Talent development: succession planning, mentoring supervisors, and coaching high potential employees.
  • Representation of the airline before: Airport authorities, Civil aviation regulators, Police, customs, immigration, Airlines committees (AOC or similar), etc.
  • Diplomatic leadership for sensitive matters (e.g., government restrictions, media situations, VIP flights, incidents).
  • Community engagement when needed (business chambers, tourism offices, local partners).

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or related fields
  • Proven 4+ experience of working in an international environment
  • Fluently read, write, and speak in English

Preferred Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or related fields

Skills, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve operational goals
  • Strong financial management and budget control skills
  • Effective problem-solving and communication skills
  • Knowledge of airport regulations and project management capabilities
