The Role

We have a permanent position for a motivated & detailed oriented General Manager to join our Varley Vehicles division, based at our Sydney, Yennora site. Where this role will guide in the design, manufacture & delivery of our specialised vehicle projects.

A great opportunity to take ownership of our Sydney business, work with our other National sites GM pier group, build the Sydney business’s profitably and create the success of growing the Sydney business over the medium to long-term.

Take charge of the efficient running of the Sydney site, by providing leadership and management for all safety, quality, cost, growth and people. Responsible for developing & implementing the business growth strategy.

This role will require you to:

  • Provide a Safe & Healthy Sydney site working environment & encourage employee wellbeing.
  • Oversee the management of all Sydney projects from a commercial perspective, taking a holistic approach to ensure performance is in accordance with specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Manage the delivery from commencement to completion of all Sydney Projects from: contract awarded stage, engineering requirements, procurement requirements, production requirements and project progress communication with customers.
  • Responsibility for Sydney site monthly P ‘n’ L, including revenue generation, gross contribution outcomes and overhead control to drive an increased EBITDA return
  • Manage the development, implementation and review of sales plans, customer strategies and sales forecasts.
  • Manage resources required to complete vehicle builds on-time, to budget and of high quality.
  • Manage project end-to-end resources - labour, equipment, procurement, out-sourcing, etc. to successfully complete projects on-time and to budget.
  • Ensure project production schedules are implemented, managed data in EPICOR system and daily production plans incorporating labour, equipment, material planning, procurement, production engineering and plans to ensure production objectives are met.
  • Maintaining & developing potential & current customer relationships.
  • Customer Relationships: Liaise with customers on a regular basis to maintain healthy relationships, understand the business operations, provide services, reporting, systems and support to meet their needs.
  • Identify new sales opportunities within existing accounts/markets & new customers/markets.
  • Ensuring People Performance of all employees on site is managed effectively.
  • Continually improving SYD business performance for the benefit of the whole Group to reduce risks and improve business performance

To be successful for this role:

  • Strong leadership – inspires teams, builds trust, and drives high performance across large, diverse workforces
  • Project Management – proven experience in Project Management related to the Manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent communicator – communicates clearly with executives, engineers, operators, and suppliers
  • Extensive manufacturing leadership experience (10–15+ years), ideally within automotive or heavy industry
  • Proven track record managing large-scale production facilities or plants
  • Experience in Sales – experience sales experience with creating sales opportunities
  • Experience in Customer Management – experienced in providing customers with positive experience through project management processes and delivering to customer expectations and agreed contract.
  • Experience overseeing end-to-end vehicle manufacturing operations (assembly, paint, body, etc.)
  • Strong background in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies
  • Demonstrated success in driving cost reduction and operational efficiency improvements
