Swan Valley Co-op invites applications for the position of General Manager (GM) to lead their passionate team in Swan River Valley, MB

Swan Valley Co-op is a locally owned, community-focused cooperative serving the Swan River Valley and The Pas, Manitoba, with food, fuel, agriculture, and home centre services. With over 85 years of operations, it reinvests profits back into the community, offering membership-based equity and a wide range of services including a Food Store, Gas Bar, and an Agro Centre.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with the Board to shape and bring to life a clear, purpose-driven strategy for the organization.
  • Lead and align teams across multiple locations to deliver strong, sustainable business performance.
  • Steer financial health through sound budgeting, responsible investment, and thoughtful growth opportunities.
  • Build and strengthen respectful, meaningful relationships with local Indigenous communities, actively supporting partnership, engagement, and a shared path forward.
  • Ensure safe, efficient, and member-focused operations that reflect the organization’s values and community commitment.
  • Develop and support leaders, fostering an engaged, collaborative, and high-performing culture.
  • Build meaningful relationships with members, team members, partners, and the broader community.
  • Champion the Co-op brand and values through visible, trusted leadership both inside and outside the organization.
  • Drive continuous improvement to enhance the member and customer experience while supporting long-term success.

Who you’ll work with:

The Team: You will work closely with the Board of Directors and will have 7 direct reports within the Senior Leadership Team. This team strives to cultivate a culture of integrity, excellence, respect and community.

Who you are:

You are a recognized leader in Retail Operations and:

  • Have a strong background in Retail Management, areas of Agriculture or Petroleum would be considered an asset.
  • Have 7-10 years of leadership experience (a diploma or degree is an asset but not a requirement).
  • Strong skills in overseeing detailed department operating budgets, timelines, people, and processes.
  • A reputation for being honest and trustworthy, results-oriented, and striving to be the best in what you do.
  • A commitment to building relationships and collaborating to deliver solutions that matter most, and you recognize the value that different perspectives bring to meet shared objectives.
