General Maintenance Technician

Department: Facilities Management
Status: Full-Time | Non-Exempt
Compensation: $22.00 per hour
Schedule: 40 hours per week (occasional evenings or weekends as needed)

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine building maintenance and preventative maintenance on facility systems.
  • Complete minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall, and basic building repairs.
  • Perform routine boiler inspections and maintenance (for candidates with boiler experience).
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of offices, classrooms, kitchens, restrooms, hallways, common areas, and exterior spaces.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, sanitize, strip, wax, buff floors, remove trash, and replenish facility supplies.
  • Complete maintenance work orders and maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
  • Coordinate repairs with outside contractors and vendors when necessary.
  • Maintain required facility and safety documentation, including fire extinguisher inspections, fire drills, elevator inspections, OSHA logs, and preventative maintenance records using the Henry maintenance management system.
  • Assist with snow removal, exterior grounds maintenance, pest control coordination, and emergency facility needs.
  • Support the Janitorial Training Program by demonstrating proper cleaning techniques and equipment use.
  • Ensure the facility remains safe, clean, and fully operational for staff, students, and visitors.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, custodial services, building operations, or a related field.
  • Experience performing general building maintenance and minor plumbing repairs.
  • Boiler maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and commercial custodial equipment.
  • OSHA 30 Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic work order/maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance and safety records.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and safely lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Pay: $22.00 per hour
  • Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: Primarily daytime hours; occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on operational needs.
