The General Maintenance Person works under directive general supervisionin accordance withrecognized maintenance methods, techniques, practices, establishedstandardsand administrative policies of Akron General Medical Center, performing general maintenance tasks. Some of these tasks may include inspections, painting, repair work, cleaningcoilsandoperatingthe building automation system.Maintainingthe proper equipment can lead to a positive experience for both our caregivers and patients. This role offers the chance to be a part of a family-oriented team that is work-life balance focused and can leadtogrowth into supervisor positions.

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00AM – 3:30PM, including rotating weekends and holidays.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform general maintenance repairs,inspectionsand tests.

  • Inspectareas,roomsand elevators from a prepared check list.

  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks and service repairs via the work request system.

  • Write work orders foradditionalwork to be completed.

  • Keep track of supplies, take inventory, record time and materialsusedand enter collected data on forms and reports.

  • Coordinate work assignments with Nursing, Admitting, other departments and staff.

  • Paint walls, floors,ceilingsand other items as directed.

  • Assemble furniture, shelving,cartsand other equipment and make andinstallsigns.

  • Repair floors, walls, ceilings, lights, furniture, medical gas outlets, plumbing, electrical, kitchen equipment, counters and cabinets, doors and related hardware, cove base, wheeled equipment, wheelchairs and other equipment or devices.

  • Clean ice machines, louvers, steam coils, hot and chilled water coils and condensers and evaporator coils.

  • Snake drains and changeair filters.

  • Perform HVAC troubleshooting and repair and investigate water leaks and unidentified odors.

  • Assistsin yard work, snow and ice controlandperform demolition work.

  • Operate the building automation system and respond to critical alarms and all operations related emergencies including but not limitedto:restoring electricity (power failure reset), water, steam, medical gases, heating, cooling, resetting the main fire alarm system and devices.

  • Assistandtrainsothers and perform other similar or lesser skilled duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • High School graduate or the equivalent with mathproficiencythrough high school algebra

  • Two years of an apprenticeship or trade school or acceptable equivalent work experience in at least two of the following fields: general shop or machine shop procedures, boiler/steam operation, refrigeration, HVAC, basic carpentry, basic electricity,electronicsor basic plumbing

  • Valid Ohio driver's license

  • Any employee who is determined to be uninsurable under AGMC's plan will not bepermittedto drive a company vehicle

  • Experience in general building or hospital maintenance blueprint and one-line wiring diagram reading

  • Ability to learn specific equipment maintenance methods by reading the manufacturers manuals


Physical Requirements:

  • willingness to work under undesirable conditions (dust odors heat cold noise and construction hazards) when necessary.


Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
