The Physical Plant department is seeking a positive, customer service oriented individual to become part of the team. The schedule for this position is a 1st shift, working Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. This is a full-time benefited position.
The Physical Plant department is responsible for the operations and maintenance, renovations and construction of all buildings, grounds and utilities of Plymouth State University. These services are provided to develop and maintain a functional, attractive and safe environment conducive to learning and to support the University’s tradition of excellence. The Physical Plant department has dedicated, professional staff trained in every principle trade required to provide these services and/or to oversee contracted services that the department does not directly provide.
Under general supervision of designated supervisor, this position will perform general and preventive maintenance services and related repairs to college/university buildings, structures, machinery and equipment.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
Perform repairs and maintenance tasks in minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and mechanical trades, requiring basic skills but not license or journeyman experience. Includes but not limited to: window/window hardware/screens, light bulb replacements, floor tile, repair faucets, plugged drains, install shelving, install bulletin boards, chalk boards, white boards and projection screens, repair/replace window shades, install bathroom accessories, install/remove window air-conditioning units, replacement of ceiling tiles.
Handle emergency repairs in designated areas.
Assess work order assignments to determine necessary repairs, method of repair and tools required.
Maintain records and information required for work orders.
Perform work to assist other trades including but not limited to: plumbers, electricians and carpenters.
Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools and equipment.
Maintain tools and equipment as required for utility tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Trade or vocational school graduation and two years of experience in one or more of the building trade, or combination of training and experience equal to four years.
Working knowledge of two or more trades and mechanical aptitude as required by department.
Knowledge and ability to operate tools of the trade.
Willingness to learn new skills and methods.
Sufficient strength and physical dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of the job including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather for prolonged periods of time.
Must be able to wear and use the appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary.
Technology skills including MS Office, Internet, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal Technician license

Compensation Pay Range:
$15.49 - $25.35
