Job Description

Gray Line Tennessee is Nashville's Leader in Transportation with over 200 vehicles in the fleet and nearly 400 employees dedicated to providing safe, authentic, and professional transportation services. We currently operate five distinct businesses, all of which are oriented toward safety, quality, and customer service.

General Maintenance Driver

Department: Maintenance

Position Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Director of Maintenance

Location: Gray Line Tennessee

Position Summary

The General Maintenance Driver is responsible for supporting Gray Line Tennessee’s daily operations through a combination of general maintenance, facility upkeep, vehicle support, and driving duties. This position helps ensure Gray Line facilities, vehicles, equipment, and grounds are clean, safe, functional, and ready for daily operations.

The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, organized, and able to work independently while responding to changing operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to company facilities, equipment, and property.
  • Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and other general maintenance tasks.
  • Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment and report maintenance issues.
  • Replace light bulbs, filters, hardware, fixtures, and other basic maintenance items.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe maintenance areas.
  • Assist with snow, ice, debris, trash, and other grounds-related needs as applicable.
  • Help maintain parking areas, driveways, bus lots, and other company property.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors or vendors when directed by management.

Vehicle and Fleet Support

  • Assist with the cleanliness and general upkeep of company vehicles.
  • Perform basic vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with vehicle servicing and repairs as directed.
  • Move vehicles around company property and to designated locations.
  • Transport vehicles or equipment to vendors, repair facilities, fueling locations, inspection locations, or other designated locations when authorized.
  • Ensure vehicles and equipment are properly secured when not in use.
  • Assist with preparing vehicles for service during periods of high operational demand.

Driving Responsibilities

  • Operate company vehicles in a safe and professional manner.
  • Transport parts, supplies, equipment, documents, and other materials between company locations and vendors.
  • Perform local pickup and delivery duties as assigned.
  • Assist Operations with moving vehicles or equipment as needed.
  • Follow all applicable traffic laws, company policies, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain any required driver's license and comply with applicable driving requirements.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, vehicle defects, property damage, accidents, or other safety concerns to management.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Properly use and maintain company tools and equipment.
  • Follow manufacturer recommendations and company procedures when performing maintenance tasks.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assist other departments with operational needs when requested.
  • Respond to maintenance and facility requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed maintenance and assigned tasks when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to perform basic maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, vendors, and other personnel.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in general maintenance, fleet maintenance, facilities maintenance, transportation, or a related field.
  • Experience working around buses, motorcoaches, commercial vehicles, or fleet equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, or carpentry work.
  • CDL or previous commercial driving experience.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.
