Performs general building maintenance and repair work. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists in ordering and picking up maintenance supplies.
  • Assists with the maintenance and repair of floors, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets and furniture; as required
    moves items related to these activities.
  • Performs and/or monitors building operations and service activities including security, housekeeping, building and grounds maintenance; as required moves items related to these activities.
  • Performs general building maintenance and repairs.
  • Assists with performing periodic preventative maintenance on heating, ventilating, air conditioning, electrical, and/or
    plumbing systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on district fuel systems and maintains fuel levels in generators.
  • Operates forklift, unloads facility deliveries, and safely stores stock in appropriate areas.
  • Maintains grounds at district offices and shops and makes repairs as needed.
  • Assists with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair as required.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education No education required.

Experience
General Maint Tech I No experience required.
General Maint Tech II 2 Years experience
in general building maintenance and repair or related work experience.(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Competencies:

General Maint Tech I:

Some knowledge of

  • Methods and procedures used in building maintenance and repair

  • Utility systems including heating, air conditioning, electrical wiring and plumbing

  • Tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair

  • Methods and materials used in carpentry work

Some skill in

  • Using, maintaining and repairing of tools and equipment of the trade

  • Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade

  • Repairing and maintaining of buildings, utility systems and related equipment

Ability to

  • Match paint color and perform painting
  • Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures

General Maint Tech II:
In addition to the above

Considerable knowledge of:

  • Methods and procedures used in building maintenance and repair

  • Utility systems including heating, air conditioning, electrical wiring and plumbing

  • Methods and materials used in carpentry work
  • Tools and equipment used in building maintenance and repair

    Proficient skill in

  • Using applicable hand and power tools, equipment, and mechanical devices of the trade
  • Repairing and maintaining of buildings, utility systems and related equipment

    Ability to

  • Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour

  • Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
  • Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
  • Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
  • Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc
  • Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine
  • Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
  • Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels; receive information by oral communication.
  • Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
  • Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures
