Job Description

Silver Springs Organics, a Waste Connections company, has an immediate opening for a Laborer at our Hidden Valley Compost operation in Rainier, Washington

This is a physically demanding, outdoor position in an active industrial environment. Employees in this role work around heavy equipment, commercial truck traffic, dust, noise, odors, and varying weather conditions Strict adherence to safety procedures and constant situational awareness are essential functions of this job.

This role is well suited for individuals who prefer hands‑on, physical work, understand the importance of following safety protocols, and are interested in long‑term stability with opportunities for growth within a well‑established company.

This is a full‑time, year‑round position

Schedule: Sunday through Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Pay Range: $21.00 – $23.00 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform general labor duties at a compost and transfer station
  • Flag and direct vehicle traffic, including large commercial trucks, to maintain site safety
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in dusty, dirty, noisy, and odorous conditions
  • Assist customers while enforcing facility rules and safety requirements
  • Use hand tools and operate minor equipment as assigned
  • Occasionally operate vehicles within the facility (requires a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record)

These duties are performed in close proximity to moving vehicles and heavy machinery, requiring alertness and compliance with all safety policies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of experience in a physically demanding outdoor work environment
  • Ability to stand and work outdoors for up to 10‑hour shifts
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to tolerate dust, dirt, odors, and noise as part of normal working conditions
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Flexibility to work at other locations if business needs require
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment drug screen and background check (safety‑sensitive position)

Work Environment & Safety

This is a safety‑sensitive role requiring the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all company safety policies. Employees must be able to recognize hazards and respond appropriately to maintain a safe work environment for themselves, coworkers, and customers.
