Job Summary

The Lead General Cleaner is responsible for performing janitorial duties while providing day-to-day guidance and support to cleaning staff. This position serves as the primary point of contact on-site, helping ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and according to company and customer standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform all General Cleaner duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, disinfecting, trash removal, and restroom cleaning.
  • Lead and support janitorial staff during assigned shifts.
  • Train new employees on cleaning procedures, safety requirements, and site-specific expectations.
  • Monitor the quality of work performed and provide coaching when needed.
  • Ensure all assigned areas are cleaned according to customer and company standards.
  • Assist with work assignments and daily task distribution.
  • Report attendance, performance concerns, and staffing needs to management.
  • Maintain adequate cleaning supplies and notify supervisors when inventory is low.
  • Inspect equipment and report maintenance needs or safety concerns.
  • Ensure employees follow company policies, safety procedures, and proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
  • Complete required reports, inspection forms, and communication logs.
  • Assist with special projects and additional cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Secure the building, including locking doors and setting alarms when required.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and support to assigned employees.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for routine employee questions and concerns during shifts.
  • Promote a positive and professional work environment.
  • Communicate staffing, scheduling, and operational concerns to management.
  • Assist supervisors and managers with employee training and performance monitoring.
  • Help ensure employees are clocking in/out correctly and following timekeeping procedures.

Qualifications

  • Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred.
  • Prior leadership or team lead experience preferred.
  • Ability to train and motivate employees.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Basic communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and perform physical cleaning duties throughout the shift.

Work Environment

  • Commercial office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, industrial locations, or other customer sites.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and normal janitorial working conditions.
  • Moderate noise levels.
  • Occasional outdoor work may be required.
