Job Description
and Responsibilities
As our Anesthesiologist, you will join CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy, the flagship academic medical center for CHI Health and Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. As part of a collaborative department of 23 anesthesiologists and 27 CRNAs, you'll provide exceptional perioperative care in a 391-bed Level I Trauma Center serving a complex and diverse patient population. This is an outstanding opportunity for physicians seeking a broad, high-acuity clinical practice while contributing to a growing academic department. You'll practice in a collaborative care team model with CRNAs and play a key role in supervising anesthesiology residents as our newly established residency program launches in 2026. The department performs more than 20,000 anesthetics annually, offering exposure to an extensive variety of surgical specialties and clinical experiences, all supported by the EPIC electronic medical record (EMR).
Every day you will provide anesthetic care across a full spectrum of surgical services, including general surgery, thoracic surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, urology, ENT, neurosurgery, trauma, and emergency surgical cases. You'll collaborate closely with surgeons, CRNAs, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, evidence-based anesthesia care for both routine and complex patients. In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you'll supervise and mentor CRNAs, anesthesiology residents, medical students, and future SRNAs while helping shape a culture of education and continuous improvement. The schedule is designed to promote both clinical excellence and work-life balance, with a shared general call schedule averaging five primary call shifts per month, including three dedicated in-house nocturnist coverage shifts, three unrestricted home call responsibilities, and a guaranteed post-call day off following primary call.
To be successful in this role, you will be a Board Certified or Board Eligible Anesthesiologist who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care in a collaborative academic environment. You will enjoy practicing a broad scope of anesthesiology while embracing opportunities to teach, mentor, and inspire the next generation of physicians. Through an academic appointment with Creighton University School of Medicine, you'll have the opportunity to educate residents, medical students, and future SRNAs, participate in curriculum development, quality improvement, and mentorship initiatives, and help build one of the nation's newest anesthesiology residency programs. This position is ideal for physicians seeking a rewarding combination of complex clinical practice, academic engagement, leadership opportunities, and long-term professional growth within a nationally respected health system.
We offer a highly competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support your career and well-being. This includes a starting bonus or education stipend, 13 weeks of paid time off, a generous CME allowance, a 401(k) with employer match, relocation assistance, paid malpractice insurance with tail coverage, and reimbursement for medical licensure expenses. Our comprehensive package allows you to focus on providing exceptional patient care while enjoying outstanding work-life balance and long-term career support.
