Job Description

The General Accounting, Senior Associate will develop, prepare and present legal entity non technical (non-reinsurance related) reports and exhibits to support quarterly and annual reporting requirements.

This person assists with intercompany accounting and cost allocation processes, is responsible for certain balance sheet accounts, performs lititgation expense reclass entries, oversees lease accounting, handles accounting for surplus notes interest and payments, and prepares quarter end close entries as needed.

The General Accounting, Senior Associate collaborates with colleagues in Bucharest, the US and other regions to complete tasks.

This person performs analytics and provides meaningful commentary on results.

Strong accounting knowledge, spreadsheet skills, SAP skills and attention to detail are essential

  • Assist with intercompany accounting and cost sharing processes as needed to ensure accurate recording of affiliate receivables and payables
  • Prepare quarterly IFRS Accounting reports for non-technical (non-reinsurance related) expenses. New reports to be developed to provide enhanced detail for IFRS 4 and IFRS 17 detail
  • Ensure thorough and accurate accounting of non-technical (non-reinsurance related) balance sheet accounts (such as payroll liabilities, vendor liabilities, and leases).
  • Calculate and prepare quarterly journal entries to properly reclassify litigation expenses from technical to non technical ledger accounts, making appropriate allowances for specific retrocessionaire reimbursements.
  • Prepare surplus notes entries in SAP and process interest and principal payments in SAP Treasury Model.
  • Handle calculations for sublease impacts on leases with respect to application of IFRS 16 and Statutory Accounting rules and oversee entries to ensure accurate lease reporting across all ledgers.
  • Build strong working relationships and collaborate with colleagues in Bucharest, the US and other regions as needed on matters such as payroll accounting, fixed assets, uncleared cash and unrecorded expenses.
  • Prepare and/or review Statutory basis Annual Statement schedules, footnotes and analytics
  • Prepare and/or review and post quarterly closing journal entries as needed, which may include dividend payments, interest accruals/payment and capital contributions.
  • Propose and implement process improvements as necessary to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness
  • Provide information and documentation to internal and external auditors, state examiners, tax experts and internal partners as needed.
  • Facilitate and perform ad hoc requests.
  • May perform other duties as necessary to support General Accounting functions and objectives.
  • 5-7 years of relevant finance and/or accounting experience.
  • Experience in insurance/reinsurance accounting, preferred.
  • Strong accounting knowledge on multiple bases of accounting (IFRS, STAT, GAAP)
  • SAP experience required, preferably in FI & CO modules, posting entries, running reports and performing research
  • Comfortable working with multiple ledgers across numerous legal entities
  • Strong PC skills in a windows-based environment with advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong attention to detail, while working effectively in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities
  • Demonstration of solid analytic and critical thinking skills with strong problem-solving ability

  • Dependable with a strong sense of urgency and ability to work extended hours as necessary to meet deadlines

  • Strong verbal & written communication skills; ablity to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Experience working with multiple legal entities and multiple bases of accounting preferred
  • Highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to manage multiple priorities & meet challenging timeframes.
  • Ability to independently identify processes and procedures needing improvement and propose solutions.
  • Alteryx experience a plus
  • Bachelor’s of Accounting or Finance or related field with demonstrated record of academic excellence
