Job Profile Summary

​This role focuses on activities related to the support services functions, such as dietary and food services, environmental services, general facilities, repair and maintenance, parking, sterilization and transportation to ensure all required support activities are completed in a timely manner and meet the organization's quality standards and expectations. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following General Facilities, Repair & Maintenance duties: Operates, monitors and maintains, troubleshoots, repairs and replaces facilities mechanical components and systems such as electrical equipment, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and plumbing. A technical role that accomplishes work through a specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, apprenticeship (craft, skilled and semi-skilled), and experience. An experienced level role that requires basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requires vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, problems are typically of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

Performs a variety of general maintenance, preventative maintenance, inspection, servicing, repair, overhaul and construction duties in all hospital buildings and grounds areas. Carries out tasks within capabilities involving a variety of maintenance crafts such as sheet metal, plumbing and pipe fitting, carpentry, tile setting, painting, electrical, roof maintenance, etc. Keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems. Assumes responsibility for the control and security of the hospital lock and key system.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. One (1) year of building maintenance.

3. Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Completion of a vocational or trade school program.

2. Three (3) years of building maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Works from written and verbal instruction using prints, specifications, sketches, charts and formulas to perform duties.

2. Duties involve repair, replacement and installation of identified components of hospital infrastructure.

3. Uses welding equipment, plumbing equipment, tools, hand and bench grinders, power drills, and numerous hand and power tools necessary to the performance of duties.

4. Maintains necessary records. Move materials and supplies as necessary in the performance of duties or as directed. Detect and report improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to supervisor.

5. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition. Follow furnished safety rules and regulations.

6. Submits assigned Preventative Maintenance Planned Work Orders within assigned timeframe.

7. Responds to Daily Demand Work Orders produced by Service Response System.

8. Participates in all snow removal and sanding functions.

Physical Requirements:

1. Frequent bending, squatting, stooping.

2. Occasional lifting heavy weights occasionally.

3. Prolonged standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders.

4. May be exposed to hazards from use of tools and power equipment.

5. Requires fine hand coordination to handle tools and other equipment.

6. Requires ability to hear verbal communication and see written or printed information.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Knowledge of general maintenance procedures.

2. Ability to set up and operate various tools and equipment inherent to repair and maintenance of hospital equipment, buildings and grounds.

3. Knowledge of safe use of equipment.

4. Ability to organize and achieve quality performance in new routines, procedures and skills in the function of a maintenance worker.

5. Ability to read blueprints and specifications to determine the procedure of assembling and/or maintaining hospital equipment, buildings and grounds.

6. Basic knowledge of electricity, plumbing, carpentry and painting as it relates to various duties.

7. Ability to exercise independent judgment in times of need and emergency situations.
