The Generation Application Support Specialist supports the optimization of value for existing applications and software agreements within Generation by providing production, project, and user support. This role partners with stakeholders across AEP IT and Generation to understand business processes, needs, and priorities, and to support process redesign through continuous improvement methods when needed. The position works collaboratively on application governance, integrations, migrations, enhancements, service requests, and maintenance, while helping to advance agile practices, data governance, and opportunities for automation and digitization.

What you’ll do:

Essential Job Functions & Tasks

  • Demonstrate understanding of budgets within the departments and projects supported and how decisions and recommendations impact expenses and revenues.
  • Demonstrate decision-making skills, understanding of departmental strategy and the ongoing need to add value to internal and external customers.
  • Effectively develop relationships and networks with stakeholders to understand how they depend on the work of this department.
  • Work with all generation business units and IT to identify upstream and downstream risks, including application and/or business process risks, associated with new and upgraded applications within Generation.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of business processes, applications, and justifications to optimize the Generation portfolio of applications and promote standardization. This includes supporting AEP IT with data flow, process, testing, documentation, communications, and user support.
  • Identify and communicate gaps and opportunities for process improvements.
  • Support and communicate data governance practices for generation applications to help promote data quality.
  • Identify and contribute to continuous improvement opportunities for automation and digitization of existing processes in Generation.
  • Participate in application governance, integrations, migrations, enhancements, service requests, and maintenance activities.
  • Develop agile skills to help accelerate business value and improve product quality.

What we’re looking for:

  • Education requirements are listed below:
  • BA/BS in engineering, physical science, computer science, business, or finance.
  • Or AS in a related field with 4 years preferably in the utility industry or 6+ years relevant experience in the utility industry.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

  • Experience with software projects including migrations, integrations, data dependencies and process flow.
  • Proficient in MS Office package (Excel, Visio, Word, and Power Point).
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the AEP’s Corporate Compliance Policy.
  • Experience in Agile project methodology, preferred.
  • Team player with ability to work and collaborate well with others.
  • Data processing and preparation software knowledge (i.e. Sql, keytexting, macros, etc..), preferred.
  • Participate in establishing a healthy culture of continuous Process Improvement.
  • Some travel required.

Other preferences:

  • Experience working with stakeholders across IT and business teams.
  • Familiarity with application governance, data governance, and process improvement practices.
  • Ability to support automation and digitization efforts.
  • Strong collaboration, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
