Summary

Incumbent works under the direction of the Community Reentry Services Manager or designee, proctoring GED examinations while providing and maintaining a secure, organized environment supporting conducive test administration.

Examples of duties

  • Complete GED candidate profiles within the GED administration system.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the public.
  • Comply with Civil Service Rules, collective bargaining agreements, County policies, department policies and laws to create a cooperative, safe, respectful and quality work environment.
  • Explain testing procedures and rules.
  • Register and admit GED candidates for specified tests.
  • Ensure GED candidates complete registration documents required prior to each test.
  • Review testing and/or class schedules ensuring availability of materials for students.
  • Assist GED candidates with testing accessibility features.
  • Assign and assist candidates to designated testing seats.
  • Verify candidates possess authorized materials only.
  • Monitor candidates during testing ensuring compliance with testing procedures.
  • Follow testing protocols, answering questions unrelated to test content.
  • Print exam results and inform candidates of test scores.
  • Assist with computer-related issues, and collaborate with vendors to resolve technical problems.
  • Ensure candidates do not take notes, photographs or copy test information.
  • Follow established procedures to communicate GED testing scores and exam results to students, instructors, reentry case managers and other appropriate justice staff.
  • Remain current on required testing and software updates.
  • Coordinate with reentry staff and/or case managers to complete rosters for vocational classes.
  • Print and/or distribute vocational class materials according to the established schedule.
  • Print and administer test for vocational classes.
  • Submit test results and vocational student information to the appropriate reentry staff, case managers, and service agency ensuring students receive proper certifications.
  • Coordinate with vocation service agencies and/or providers ensuring availability of course materials.
  • Report to work with regular, consistent attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and directed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.*
  • Post-secondary education preferred.
  • One (1) year of customer service or test proctoring experience required.*
  • Pearson VUE certification required within one (1) month of hire.
  • Completion of a pre-employment criminal record check and conditional offer drug screen required.
  • *Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted for requirements on a year-for-year basis.

  • Work is generally performed in an office setting within a correctional facility. Noise level is usually moderate.   • Work requires some physical activity, including extended periods of sitting, standing, frequent walking, reaching, and occasional balancing, kneeling, and bending. Work also requires the ability to frequently lift/carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
  • Required sensory abilities include vision, hearing and touch. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges, include close, distance and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk and hear within normal ranges. Incumbent must possess the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computers and other equipment.
