The Academic Coordinator leads initiatives that promote academic achievement, postsecondary readiness, and instructional improvement among GEAR UP students in St. Mary Parish Schools. Working closely with teachers, counselors, and LSU staff, the Coordinator supports tutoring, test preparation, dual enrollment, and other evidence-based academic interventions. Develops and implements activities that build college-going culture, leadership skills, and family engagement among GEAR UP students. The position supports mentoring, social-emotional learning, and career exploration to promote academic persistence and postsecondary success.
Job Responsibilities
Coordinate mentoring programs, leadership workshops, and family engagement events. Design and coordinate tutoring, enrichment, and college readiness programming. (25%)
Develop and deliver college and career readiness sessions, including financial literacy and FAFSA support. Collaborate on and assist with after-school, spring break, and summer learning programs and STEM or literacy enrichment initiatives. (25%)
Support teachers in implementing strategies aligned with GEAR UP outcomes and support professional development for educators related to GEAR UP goals. Collaborate with school personnel to integrate GEAR UP academic services. (15%)
Serve as a liaison among students, families, school personnel, and community partners. Promote positive youth development and connect families with community resources. (10%)
Analyze student data to identify academic needs and track outcomes. Maintain accurate records of participation and program effectiveness. (10%)
Collaborate with the partner GU Academic Coordinator and GU team to align academic and student support efforts; Assist with college campus tours, field trips, and summer program logistics. (10%)
Other duties as needed. (5%)
Special or Physical Requirements
This position and/or position responsibilities require work directly with minors. Fingerprinting and a National Sex Offender Registry check are required per FASOP HR-04.
Additional Information
This position is 100% grant-funded and contingent upon continued funding availability. The position is based in St. Mary Parish and may require travel to LSU or regional partner sites. Submit a cover letter, résumé, and contact information for three professional references.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field
Minimum one year of experience in K-12 or postsecondary education

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Education, Curriculum Development, or Educational Leadership
Experience with GEAR UP, TRIO, or similar college access programs; Bilingual Abilities. Experience with instructional coordination or tutoring program management; Familiarity with college readiness frameworks and standardized test preparation.
