Job Description

GE Vernova Advanced Research is the central innovation engine for GE Vernova’s portfolio of energy businesses. Our teams bring together researchers and engineers from across disciplines to invent and mature technologies that support the global energy transition — enabling safer, more reliable, and more sustainable industrial systems.
Robotics is a critical capability across GE Vernova, supporting inspection, maintenance, and operation of complex energy infrastructure. This Fellow Internship focuses on computer vision technologies that enable robotic systems to understand, reason about, and safely interact with real-world environments.

As a Computer Vision Intern, you will work closely with senior researchers and engineers on advanced perception-related research and development efforts for robotic systems.

Fellowship assignments typically last 12–14 weeks and emphasize deeper technical engagement, research exploration, and independent contribution. Fellows are expected to help shape technical direction, evaluate novel approaches, and connect academic research with real-world robotic applications.

The program also includes technical seminars, professional development opportunities, and forums to present and discuss research outcomes.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced research and development in computer vision and perception for robotic systems
  • Explore sensing, perception, mapping, and scene understanding approaches for robots operating in complex environments
  • Design and execute experiments using simulation, datasets, and/or physical robotic platforms
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate perception capabilities into larger robotic systems
  • Analyze results, draw technical conclusions, and recommend next steps
  • Document and communicate research findings to technical stakeholders

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong research background in computer vision, perception, robotics, or closely related areas
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research through publications, projects, or prior internships
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary, industrial research environment
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required
  • Willingness to work on-site in Niskayuna, NY

Desired Characteristics

  • Pursuing a PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (not a necessity, if you are pursuing a Masters please apply)
  • Strong curiosity and passion for advancing perception and AI capabilities in physical systems
  • Experience with programming languages commonly used in robotics or perception (e.g., Python, C++, or similar, ROS)
  • Familiarity with computer vision, robotics, or machine learning frameworks (academic or research experience is sufficient)
  • Ability to frame open-ended technical problems and propose structured approaches
  • Clear technical communication skills, both written and verbal
