As a Distributed Control System Design Engineer, you will:

  • Design and manage instrumentation and control (I&C) systems: Develop engineering solutions, apply control theory, and create simulation models.
  • Prepare designs for nuclear safety and operational systems: Including reactor protection, augmented quality assurance, process instrumentation, and balance of plant systems.
  • Execute design projects through all phases: From conceptual to detailed design, using digital tools and rigorous configuration management.
  • Select and integrate I&C hardware and software: Ensuring functional, performance, reliability, and security goals.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines: To achieve RAM targets using FMEA, PRA, and related methods.
  • Support regulatory licensing and procurement: Oversee supplier development and compliance with standards.
  • Manage supplier testing and integration: Review and approve test plans, procedures, and reports (FAT, SAT, etc.).
  • Build and maintain relationships: With project management, A/E, EPC partners, and suppliers.
  • Manage project scope, budget, and schedule: Deliver results on time and within budget.
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost reduction: Support LEAN initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship: Promote a strong nuclear safety culture.

  • Technical Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Computer Science/Technology, Systems), or related field (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics).
  • Extensive Industry Experience: ideally within heavy industries, high-risk or high-standards industries (nuclear, power, oil & gas, etc.).
  • Design Documentation Expertise: creating system design requirements, specifications, and documentation using digital tools (drawings, databases, etc.).
  • Diagramming and Modeling Proficiency: developing diagrams (functional block, logic, wiring, etc.) and physics-based simulations.
  • Standards Compliance: Working experience with IEC 60xxx/61xxx/62xxx OR IEEE standards (603, 7-4.3.2, etc.).
  • Safety-Critical I&C Experience: Proven experience in design, application, or field engineering of safety-significant I&C systems.
  • Dynamic Simulation Experience with digital tools for physics-based process control algorithm development and simulation.
  • PLC/DCS Experience application or field engineering of mid-tier PLC or top-tier DCS systems.

Desired Experience:

  • Nuclear I&C Expertise: Experience with nuclear analog and digital I&C, safety systems, and related processes (CRD, RBM, EQ testing, etc.).
  • Nuclear Regulatory Experience: Familiarity with nuclear regulatory affairs, design certification, and licensing (US NRC or international standards).
  • Advanced DCS/PLC Experience: Hands-on experience with deploying and supporting complex, high-reliability DCS/PLC systems (GE Mark-VIe, Westinghouse CommonQ, etc.).
  • Digital Engineering Tool Proficiency: Experience with modern digital engineering tools for content creation, requirements management, simulation, and configuration management (Confluence, DOORS-NextGen, Simulink, etc.).
