& RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Gate Clerk, you'll perform operational duties that help improve port drivers turn time, enhance awareness of fleet movements, and ensure yard management system data accuracy.

This is an on-site role located in Savannah, GA Responsibilities include:

  • This team member will control inbound and outbound container movements between GPA port and POET Terminal Savannah container yards.

  • Ensuring yard management system data accuracy, while keeping in constant contact with port drivers.

  • Ensuring all check in/out procedures are followed per POET directive.

  • Assigns drop/pickup locations for containers according to daily plan.

  • Verifies container movement with drivers entering and exiting the yard, coordinating booking and container number verification in Freight Flow.

  • Assist Dispatch Manager with pulling data from carriers’ computer systems for reporting needs.

  • Records and maintains a daily physical yard check of all containers onsite.

  • Communicate with top lift operator for stack coordination while maximizing space utilization.

  • Coordinating traffic flow within the container yard.

  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and compliance at all times

  • Maintain and advance the food safety and quality of POET’s products and processes to deliver a best-in-class culture of quality.

  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • 1+ years of relevant experience.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.

  • You communicate effectively in writing and in person.

  • You have the ability to understand technical and day to day operation of a transloading facility.

  • Knowledge of the basics of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability of learning new programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role has some physical requirements that our team members will need to be able to perform, such as:

  • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds.

  • Climbing in and out of shipping containers.

  • Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weight of less than fifty (50) pounds.

  • Walking up to two (2) or more miles per day.

  • Pushing brooms, shovels, etc.

  • Standing for extended periods of time.

  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Due to the physical and safety-sensitive nature of this job, you will be subject to a physical and expected to pass a drug screen during the pre-screen process. During employment, you’ll be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
