SGS Gas Analytical Services (GAS) is experiencing significant growth and is seeking an ambitious and technically capable Technical Sales Engineer to join our expanding European team. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future growth of SGS GAS across Europe by developing new business opportunities, supporting key international customers, and promoting our advanced gas analysis and analytical services.

You will work closely with clients across multiple industries and collaborate with global SGS teams to deliver innovative analytical and instrumentation solutions. The role is ideally suited to someone who combines technical curiosity with commercial drive, and who enjoys building long-term relationships with customers.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the continued expansion of SGS GAS across Europe.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive new business development for SGS GAS across European markets.
  • Identify, develop and convert new commercial opportunities with industrial and international clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both new and existing customers across Europe.
  • Support the execution and delivery of projects and services within European markets where required.
  • Develop strong expertise in the five core SGS GAS service areas.
  • Contribute to the continued growth of the SGS GAS business in line with strategic and financial targets.

Additionally

  • Act as a trusted technical and commercial partner for customers across Europe.
  • Develop a strong understanding of SGS GAS analytical capabilities, including instrumentation solutions for Pharmaceutical and Medical Device companies and analytical solutions for the Semiconductor sector.
  • Participate actively in the full sales cycle, including opportunity identification, technical discussions, solution development, proposal preparation and contract closure.
  • Represent SGS GAS at key industry conferences, exhibitions and technical forums across Europe.
  • Work closely with the global SGS team to implement a coordinated European sales strategy.
  • Provide account management and commercial leadership for key European and international clients.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing accounts by identifying opportunities to expand SGS GAS services and solutions.
  • Act as the primary contact for client enquiries and coordinate effectively with SGS affiliates and operational teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity and pricing strategies to ensure SGS GAS remains competitive and continues to capture market opportunities.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant technical or engineering discipline.
  • Interest in developing expertise in gas analysis, analytical services and instrumentation technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical sales, business development or commercial roles within industrial or technical sectors.
  • Strong technical problem-solving ability combined with commercial awareness.
  • Ability to identify and develop new business opportunities in international markets.
  • Fluent English is essential; additional European languages are an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic thinker capable of contributing to long-term business growth plans.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently across a European territory.
  • Willingness to travel across Europe to visit customers and exhibitions to maintain and develop relationships.

    Works effectively across the global SGS network, collaborating with affiliates, operational teams and subject‑matter experts to deliver integrated solutions and ensure successful project execution for international clients.

  • Personal Effectiveness & Professional Drive

    Demonstrates high levels of self‑motivation, initiative and resilience when working independently across a European territory. Communicates clearly and professionally, represents SGS at industry events, and shows commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
