Gas Operations Control Supervisor


Energy System Operations (ESO) is seeking a new leader to join our team as the Gas Control Operations Supervisor In this job, you will be responsible for the management of the gas distribution operations control center, system outages and restoration, planning processes of the natural gas delivery system for 24-hour/day operation, including leading and coaching through a variety of challenging opportunities. This is an important role that unifies gas operations, engineering, design, and construction and maintenance into a single, high-performing team.

This job will require the ability to work both independently, and to develop and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with individuals and groups. Success in this role leads to a safer, more reliable gas system; stronger alignment across departments; and a control operations team that is prepared and trusted throughout the organization.

This position requires being on-call after normal business hours to assist in emergencies or control room functions.

In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring short/long-term strategies, annual business plans to achieve the organizational mission, goals, and performance measures
  • Monitor operations in accordance with all PHMSA regulatory and compliance code
  • Oversee Gas Clearance system and processes, operations, distribution system planning, emergency planning, and coordination
  • Managing and implementing projects and activities in the Gas Distribution Control Operations, including scheduling, resource planning, and projects
  • Researching new technologies/process improvement. Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve reliability and customer service
  • Acting in a role on Incident Command during system emergencies to ensure proper response and appropriate level of resources are employed
  • Implementing a system-wide emergency response plan as needed
  • Serving on project teams and committees
  • Developing and managing O&M budgets, respond to any deviations from the approved cost/timeline projections. Authorize purchase of and payment for required equipment and services
  • Manage process documents. Review and approve any changes to processes
  • Leads cross-functional coordination across gas operations, engineering, design, construction and maintenance, and regulatory and compliance
  • Consult with Gas Engineering concerning design parameters for alarm limits
  • Coordinate projects with the SCADA team
  • Build, inspire, and develop a high-performing control operations team capable of operating under routine and emergency conditions
  • Plan regular team meetings for training and coaching


Who you are:

  • Proven experience and working knowledge of natural gas operations, including distribution systems, gas construction and maintenance, SCADA systems, control room functions, and incident management
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience managing control systems and system operations within a gas or utility environment
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, operational setting
  • Demonstrated skill in building and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships across individuals, teams, and departments
  • Strong operational judgment and decision-making skills that support system safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance
  • Track record of fostering cross-department alignment and developing a control operations team that is prepared, trusted, and respected throughout the organization

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary work. Even though the weight lifted may be of only negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those is negligible.
  • Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment.
