Edinburgh | £35.9k - £44.4 per annum (dependent on skills and qualifications)

Full-time | Hybrid (office based initially until full training given)

Shape the future of Scotland’s gas network

We’re looking for a Gas Distribution Planning Analyst to join our Network Planning team in Edinburgh. This is a pivotal analytical role supporting the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation and development of the gas distribution network across Scotland and Southern England.

You’ll provide expert technical analysis and planning support to ensure the gas network continues to operate safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory obligations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a detailed and up-to-date understanding of the gas distribution supply system
  • Ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and ongoing development of SGN’s gas infrastructure analysis systems
  • Supporting the safe, efficient, and economic development of the gas supply network
  • Identifying optimal network operating strategies that balance cost efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Developing robust and deliverable mains replacement designs, considering cost and interaction with wider business drivers
  • Producing reinforcement designs to support new connections, ensuring cost and operational efficiency
  • Developing a strong working knowledge of the Leakage and Environmental Emissions Incentive and its impact on network planning
  • Providing high-quality analysis and insight to support decision-making across the wider business
  • Delivering an effective and responsive planning service to operational teams

What you will need

·We’re seeking a motivated, analytical professional who combines technical capability with strong communication and problem-solving skills.

  • A sound awareness of working within budgets and a strong cost-conscious mindset
  • The ability to think clearly under pressure while maintaining a strong focus on safety
  • Excellent IT skills, with experience using general office software and engineering or analytical applications
  • A positive, flexible, and proactive approach to work
  • Strong organisational, diagnostic, and problem-solving abilities
  • The confidence to communicate effectively at all levels and take ownership of your work
