Position Title: Garden Manager

About Us:

Frostwood Farms is a hay and crop farming operation located in Fitchburg, WI. One acre of land is dedicated to growing tomatoes and peppers, our St. Isidore Garden. The Frostwood Farms Team is comprised of the Farm Team and the Garden Team who work together to tend the land.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the planning and planting of the Garden.
• Assist the Frostwood Team in preparing the land for the Garden, including physical setup.
• Work with the Youth Coordinator to direct the Garden Supervisors and Gardeners.
• Responsible for maintaining Frostwood Farms and St. Isidore’s Garden standards and teaching these standards to the Garden Supervisors and the Gardeners.
• Work closely with the Garden Team and Frostwood Farms Team regarding equipment usage and maintenance.
• Responsible, in conjunction with the Youth Coordinator, for ensuring that the Gardeners and Garden Supervisors are taught the correct methods of tending the Garden, including weeding and plant maintenance.
• Maintain effective communication with the Youth Coordinator and the Garden team.
• Be physically able to handle work in the Garden such as digging, pounding stakes, lifting, etc.

Qualifications:

• A strong interest in learning how to tend St. Isidore's Garden.
• A proven desire/record to work outdoors all summer.
• A proven ability to work with others, particularly youth.
• Experience using garden tools and equipment.
• Preference will be given to individuals who have gardening or farming experience.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Planning and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
• Ability to earn respect from teammates.
• Ability to recognize and instruct in the importance of teamwork.
• Ability to train and supervise teammates.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Low absenteeism
