Job Description

Job Title: Garden and Greenhouse Manager
FLSA Status:
Full-Time - non-exempt
Schedule:
up to 40 hours weekly

Rate of Pay: $25.00 hourly
Closing Date: 4/15/2026


Benefits Standard; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

  • One floating day off for use (accrued immediately, and again annually, but may not be used until the completion of the initial three-month introductory period of employment)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of greenhouse and garden facilities, ensuring optimal conditions for plant
    growth and production.
  • Manage planting schedules, crop rotation, and plant propagation.
  • Implement integrated pest management strategies and monitor plant health.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources such as water, soil, and fertilizers to minimize waste and promote
    sustainability.
  • Monitor greenhouse energy consumption and recommend improvements to reduce environmental impact.
  • Promote eco-friendly practices at the center, such as waste reduction and recycling.
  • Lead and manage students of all ages, volunteers, interns, staff and visitors in horticultural events,
    ensuring effective collaboration and training in best practices.
  • Help organize workshops, tours, and events to promote horticultural education and agrotourism.
  • Keep track of budgets for greenhouse operations, sustainability projects, and equipment procurement.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of greenhouse infrastructure and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Horticulture, Sustainability, or related field preferred.
• Colorado Master Gardener designation preferred.
• Proven experience in greenhouse management.
• Strong understanding of sustainable practices, renewable energy, and environmental stewardship.
• Knowledge of plant science, horticulture techniques, and integrated pest management.
• Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and compliance standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively with leadership, staff, volunteers, community at large.

Background Check

▪Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is
processed in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies.


Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
• Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead.
