This is a Fully Qualified Garage Mechanic Position
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Individuals must have four and one-half years’ experience as fully qualified garage mechanics.
Education and training equivalent to graduation from high school or vocational school, supplemented
by a one-year trade school course are required. Preference will be given to individuals who are
qualified to hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). This is a shift position with the majority
of the work to be performed on the night (2nd) shift. Monday - Friday, 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.
The individual will be required to supply their own hand tools.
The individual will be required to work emergency and plan over time to support the 24/7 nature of
the utility business.
Under general supervision, individual performs various kinds of skilled and unskilled workers in
connection with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of automotive and mobile or stationary,
heavy-duty equipment, including any associated components and equipment. Must have a working
knowledge of the operation and construction of internal combustion engines and hydraulic
assemblies. Must have the ability to diagnose operating deficiencies of automotive and hydraulic
equipment and the mechanical ability to install new and maintain equipment for all types of
work-related to the Transportation Department. Will perform duties indoors and outdoors, at times
under adverse weather conditions and for extended periods.
Bargaining unit employees at WMECO with contractual rights to this position will be given first
consideration. This position is also being posted internally and externally.
Compensation and Benefits:
The hourly rate for this position starts at $53.01 and progresses in accordance with the union
