Summary

Northwestern State University seeks an energetic and student-focused professional to serve as the Gallaspy Scholars Recruitment Coordinator. The Gallaspy Scholars Recruitment Coordinator is a specialized recruitment position dedicated to increasing enrollment in Northwestern State University's initial teacher-certification programs and expanding the pipeline of qualified students who may benefit from scholarships supported by the Mary R. Gallaspy Charitable Trust #2. The coordinator identifies, informs, recruits and supports prospective students who have expressed an interest in becoming certified educators, with particular emphasis on helping eligible students understand and pursue the Gallaspy Scholars opportunity.

Scope limitation. This is not a general university recruiter position. The coordinator's assigned population, outreach, events, communications and performance measures shall be limited to prospective or admitted students considering initial teacher-certification programs and to activities directly supporting the Gallaspy Scholars pipeline.

Examples of duties

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in student recruitment, admissions, education, counseling, public relations, outreach or a closely related field.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school and college-age students, families, counselors, educators and school-­system partners.
  • Ability to travel for assigned education-focused recruitment activities and to work occasional evenings or weekends.

Preferred

  • Experience in K-12 education, educator preparation, higher education recruitment or student advising.
  • Knowledge of Louisiana teacher-certification pathways and the challenges affecting the educator workforce pipeline.
  • Experience using a customer relationship management system or comparable student-tracking platform.

Performance Measures

  • Growth and documented engagement of the assigned teacher-education prospect pool.
  • Applications, completed admissions files and enrollment yield in initial teacher-certification programs attributable to assigned recruitment activity.
  • Qualified referrals to the Gallaspy Scholars process and completion of required follow-up steps.
  • Education-focused school, district, counselor and community-college partnerships established or maintained.
  • Accuracy, timeliness and completeness of prospect records and periodic reports.

Express Exclusions

  • Unless a task directly supports the assigned teacher-education population, this position is not responsible for:
  • Recruiting students for academic programs outside initial teacher certification.
  • Maintaining a general geographic recruitment territory or representing all university programs at routine college fairs.
  • Providing routine office coverage, answering general recruiting inquiries or filling unrelated requests.
  • Administering general campus tours, cheer camps, literary rallies or other university-wide events.
  • Performing open-ended 'other duties as assigned' for University Recruiting that are unrelated to the specialized purpose of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

35% Targeted prospect development and outreach

  • Develop and manage a defined pool of prospective students who have indicated an interest in teaching, education or an NSU initial teacher-certification program.
  • Conduct individualized outreach by telephone, email, text, virtual meeting and in-person contact, and document each contact and next step in the university's approved system.
  • Provide accurate information about School of Education programs, admission steps, teacher-certification pathways and the availability of Gallaspy Scholars assistance, while referring eligibility and award questions to the appropriate officials.

25% Education-focused recruitment partnerships

  • Build working relationships with high school counselors, dual-enrollment personnel, Educators Rising or similar organizations, school districts, community colleges and other partners that can identify students interested in becoming teachers.
  • Arrange and deliver presentations, classroom visits, educator-career sessions and small-group meetings specifically focused on teacher education and the Gallaspy Scholars opportunity.

20% Prospect-to-enrollment guidance

  • Guide assigned prospects through application, admission, financial-aid and enrollment milestones, coordinating warm handoffs to the responsible university offices.
  • Follow up with admitted teacher-education prospects to address barriers, encourage completion of required steps and support their transition into an initial teacher-certification program.

10% Targeted events and visits

  • Plan or participate in School of Education recruitment activities, Gallaspy Scholars information sessions, counselor luncheons and university recruitment events only when participation is directed toward prospective teacher­education students.
  • Conduct School of Education visits or tours for assigned prospects and families; general campus tours may be included only when incidental to a teacher-education recruitment visit.

10% Assessment, records and stewardship reporting

  • Maintain accurate records and prepare periodic reports on assigned prospects, outreach, applications, admissions, scholarship referrals, enrollment yield and other approved measures tied to the teacher-education recruitment initiative.
  • Provide outcome information needed to evaluate the effectiveness of Trust-supported recruitment expenditures, while maintaining student privacy and complying with university policy.
