Job Description

ABOUT:

GAIN is a creative-led, insight-driven company that blends data, tech and creativity. We believe the best ideas emerge where intelligence and creativity unite, where insight sparks imagination, and where innovation turns possibility into progress.

We are explorers of new frontiers, shaping bold strategies that move people, brands, and businesses forward. Individually and together, our specialist teams provide the vision, data, and confidence brands and organisations need to make braver, more impactful decisions.

Today as GAIN, we work as a united force, using data to fuel creativity, and technology to unlock new possibilities. As imagineers we don’t just embrace innovation – we engineer it, transforming information into action, and ideas into breakthroughs.

This is where rebel thinking, smart technology, and data-driven creativity shape the future.

THE ROLE:

We’re looking for an accomplished freelance writer and content marketer to shape how GAIN tells its story. You’ll create the website copy, blogs, emails, case studies and thought leadership papers that build our reputation, engage prospective clients and support our growth.

This is an in-house role dedicated to the GAIN brand across the business. Working with our Head of Demand and wider marketing team, you’ll develop the editorial plan and personally write and edit the core content. You’ll have the experience and judgement to take an initial idea, a specialist interview or a loose brief through to polished, publication-ready copy with minimal day-to-day direction.

You’ll be curious about the challenges facing marketing leaders and confident finding an original angle. You’ll know when to ask another question, challenge a claim or simplify an explanation. Above all, you’ll enjoy writing and take pride in making every piece useful, credible and recognisably GAIN.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Own the content strategy and editorial calendar

  • Develop a practical content strategy with the Head of Demand, connecting GAIN’s positioning and growth priorities to the interests and needs of prospective clients.
  • Manage an editorial calendar across the website, email and social channels, balancing thought leadership, campaigns, case studies and timely news. Set clear priorities, deadlines and approval stages.

Write content that earns attention

  • Personally research, write and edit website and service pages, landing pages, blogs, newsletters, nurture emails, social copy and substantial thought leadership papers, reports and guides.
  • Find strong stories in our work and turn them into case studies with a clear challenge, approach and evidenced outcome. Adapt larger pieces into useful content for different channels and audiences.
  • Protect GAIN’s tone of voice and editorial standards, checking structure, clarity, grammar, sources and claims before publication.

Turn specialist expertise into original thinking

  • Interview senior leaders and specialists across GAIN, draw out their perspectives and develop compelling arguments that matter to a senior marketing audience.
  • Ghostwrite articles and commentary with subject-matter experts, preserving their voice and securing factual approval. Translate complex creative, data, media and technology topics into accessible, commercially relevant writing.

Publish and improve discoverability

  • Liaise with the Web Manager to publish and refresh content through the website CMS, maintaining clear page structure, internal links, metadata, accessible copy and effective calls to action.
  • Work closely with the SEO Manager to apply SEO fundamentals and develop our approach to answer engine optimisation (AEO) and generative engine optimisation (GEO), to improve how our expertise is found and understood.

Bring the right people together

  • Partner with design, social, PR and web colleagues to deliver a consistent brand experience. Develop clear briefs and scripts for visual and video content, collaborating with specialists on production.
  • Work with Growth and client teams to identify audience questions, useful proof points and content that supports new business conversations. Manage feedback and secure relevant permissions for client stories.

Use evidence to improve the work

  • Use GA4, Search Console and email and social analytics to assess relevant traffic, engagement, downloads and enquiries. Work with Growth to understand content’s contribution to qualified opportunities and commercial results.
  • Report what is working and recommend changes to topics, formats, distribution and calls to action. Use AI-assisted tools thoughtfully to improve workflows, retaining personal responsibility for originality, accuracy, confidentiality and the final copy.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience in B2B content marketing, copywriting or editorial work, video content creation, ideally within an agency, consultancy or creative technology business. You can show that you have owned and delivered a content programme independently.
  • An excellent portfolio of your own writing, including long-form thought leadership and persuasive website or email copy. Your work shows strong ideas, clear arguments and an ability to adapt tone and depth for different audiences.
  • The research and interviewing skills to develop informed perspectives from specialist input, alongside the editorial confidence to interrogate evidence and improve a draft.
  • Practical knowledge of SEO, an informed interest in AI-driven discovery, and confidence using a CMS, email platforms and analytics to publish, evaluate and improve content.
  • Strong organisation and stakeholder management: you can secure input from busy colleagues, resolve conflicting feedback and deliver to agreed deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Commercial curiosity about the agency landscape, a good eye for how words and design work together, and sound judgement about when AI tools add value.

What success looks like

You’ll establish a reliable flow of distinctive, well-crafted content that reflects the quality of GAIN’s thinking. Our website will explain our offer clearly, our thought leadership will bring a useful point of view, and our campaigns will give prospective clients reasons to engage.

Success will be assessed through editorial quality, consistent delivery, relevant audience engagement and evidence that content supports enquiries and new business conversations. You’ll use those findings to keep improving the programme.

HOW YOU’LL WORK:

Rebel Thinking: We don’t accept “good enough”. Rebel Thinking is about curiosity with courage. We make it safe to question assumptions, challenge the obvious, and explore smarter, braver ways forward, even when it feels uncomfortable. This is how new ideas, better products, and real breakthroughs happen.

Swarming Our Expertise: “Individually smart. Collectively unstoppable.” Swarming our Expertise means we win together. We commit to developing our expertise so that by combining diverse skills, perspectives, and experiences, we solver harder problems faster and deliver results no single expert could achieve together.

Benefits

  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Life Assurance
  • Income protection
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Cycle to Work salary sacrifice scheme
  • Tech & Wearables salary sacrifice scheme
  • Octopus EV Scheme
