Job Description

The Family Violence Prevention (FVP)
Division includes a variety of programs including Tangentyere Family
Violence Prevention Program (FVPP) under which sits the Men’s Behaviour Change
Program (MBCP), Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group (TWFSG), Strong
Families Program, and Domestic Violence Specialist Children’s Service (DVSCS).

The Tangentyere Men’s Behaviour Change Program (MBCP) aims
to work towards the safety, well-being, human rights and dignity of women,
children and others affected by men’s use of violence. It incorporates Element
Four of the Northern Territory’s Domestic, Family and
Sexual Violence Reduction Framework 2018-2028 Safe, Respected and Free from
Violence and is one of the five key components of the Northern Territory
Government ten-year plan to reduce the impact of domestic, family, and sexual
violence in our community.

The Men’s Engagement Worker operates within the Tangentyere Men’s Behaviour Change
Program (MBCP) as part of the Family Violence Prevention Program (FVPP)
division. This position will engage men in the Co-Responder, Men’s Behaviour
Change Program, and the Tangentyere Men’s Family Safety Group (TMFSG). The role
focuses on steady engagement, practical support, and culturally safe
accountability work with Aboriginal men, keeping women’s and children’s safety
at the centre.Working alongside the Men’s Behaviour Change Practitioners,
Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA), and other relevant
stakeholders, this role contributes to an integrated, whole-of-community
response that keeps men in view, upholds women and childrens’ safety, and
strengthens Aboriginal-led pathways of accountability and healing.

Responsibilities

Ensure women’s and children’s safety remains the
primary focus of all Men’s Engagement activities through collaboration with
Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA).

Deliver daily Men’s Engagement & Co‑Responder
outreach support including phone support, home visits, and follow‑ups
after police DFV call‑outs.


Provide structured one‑on‑one emotional and practical support that fosters attendance to MBCP groupwork, well-being, and nonviolent behaviours.


Provide short-term case management for TMBCP participants including assessment of needs and coordinating warm referrals to other relevant services such as AOD, primary/mental health, housing, and employment supports.

Support community-led initiatives with the Tangentyere Men’s Family Safety Group (TMFSG) that engage men in the development of the TMBCP through lived experience while providing opportunities for training and social support.


Maintain professional judgement and cultural sensitivity when engaging men across Town Camps, corrections, and rehabilitation settings.


Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with NT Police, Courts, and Community Corrections to enhance an integrated response to Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence.


Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation, including risk assessments and detailed case notes, in accordance with legal, ethical, and organisational standards.


Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.


Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.


Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.


Other reasonable duties as required.


Qualifications and Selection Criteria


Required

Demonstrated experience working alongside Aboriginal people, and/or a demonstrated ability to work in a cross-cultural context.


Demonstrated understanding and commitment to a gendered analysis of men's use of family and domestic violence.


Excellent communication skills and the ability positively to engage with men who have used violence in their intimate relationships.


Demonstrated ability in ethical and professional judgement regarding risk and safety for women, children and men engaged with the program.


Culturally safe, trauma-informed, strengths-based practice that centres women’s and children’s safety.


Demonstrated administration skills.


Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.

Current NT Drivers Licence

NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card

Satisfactory Police Check

Proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.


Desirable

Program experience working with Aboriginal men
in Central Australia.


Experience working in a DFV program.


Relevant qualification (Community Services,
Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Alcohol and Other Drugs, Community Development)
or equivalent experience.
