The Future 2 Teacher plays a critical role in guiding students through innovative, experience-based learning designed to accelerate academic growth, develop durable life skills, and increase student engagement. This position is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction while serving as a coach and motivator for students in grades 3–8. The Future 2 Teacher supports a non-traditional learning model that blends rigorous academics, adaptive and AI-supported learning, and real-world experiences to prepare students for long-term success.
The Future 2 Teacher collaborates closely with administrators, learning coaches, apprentices, families, and community partners to ensure students feel known, challenged, and supported while meeting academic and experiential promotion requirements.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

1. Deliver high-quality core academic instruction aligned to HISD curriculum, accountability standards, and Future 2 design principles.
2. Teach mixed-grade cohorts within the Future 2 dyad model for designated courses and learning experiences.
3. Design and facilitate engaging, discussion-driven lessons that promote critical thinking, judgment, collaboration, and adaptability.
4. Integrate AI-enabled and adaptive learning tools to accelerate student learning and model responsible technology use.
5. Explicitly teach and assess Habits of Success using District-adopted rubrics and performance-based assessments.
6. Conduct regular individual and small-group coaching sessions to support student goal-setting, persistence, and accountability.
7. Motivate students to meet academic benchmarks and successfully complete required dyad experiences.

8. Monitor, track, and analyze student progress toward promotion and performance criteria.
9. Address disengagement or resistance using developmentally appropriate and productive strategies.
10 Maintain a structured, positive learning environment with high expectations for attendance, behavior, and effort.
11 Prepare students for experiential learning opportunities including field trips, community-based learning, and travel experiences.
12 Foster strong, supportive relationships that promote student engagement, confidence, and ownership of learning.
13 Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, expectations, and requirements.
14 Collaborate with administrators, learning coaches, teacher apprentices, and community partners to support student outcomes.
15 Participate in professional development, collaborative planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
16 Support extended-day programming as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work requires frequent independent judgment in instructional design, motivation strategies, and student support decisions. General supervision is provided, with high expectations for autonomy, professionalism, and instructional effectiveness.
High personal standards and ability to hold students to excellence. Strong classroom presence, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building skills. Flexibility and adaptability within a non-traditional instructional model.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
None.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Position requires identifying instructional and motivational challenges and implementing appropriate strategies to support student success. Solutions are typically developed collaboratively and refined through feedback and data review.

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
Valid Texas Teacher Certification preferred or active enrollment in a certification program.

Experience

0–5 years of teaching experience preferred.
Experience coaching, mentoring, or motivating students strongly preferred. Experience guiding students through structured activities to achieve predetermined goals.

Decisions directly impact student engagement, learning outcomes, and promotion readiness. Errors are generally identifiable and correctable through collaboration and coaching.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Regular interaction with students, families, instructional staff, administrators, and community partners. Communication focuses on instructional clarity, motivation, collaboration, and alignment with Future 2 program expectations.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Builds and maintains strong relationships with students and families. Acts as a trusted guide in supporting student growth, decision-making, and goal attainment.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a school-based environment, including extended hours and occasional work outside the standard school day.
Ability to lift and/or carry less than 15 pounds.
