Job Description

The Furniture Sander is a vital member of the production team, responsible for the final surface preparation of wood furniture and frames. This role blends manual dexterity with a keen eye for detail, ensuring that every piece is structurally sound and aesthetically smooth before it moves to the finishing stage.

Working in a high-volume manufacturing environment, you will interpret production tickets, utilize specialized sanding tools and jigs, and perform minor wood repairs to eliminate defects. The ideal candidate is a quality-focused team player who thrives in a physically active role and takes pride in transforming raw materials into high-quality, handcrafted goods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production Oversight: Reading and interpreting production tickets to ensure each piece is sanded according to specific design requirements.

  • Precision Sanding: Manually sanding wood furniture and frames using a variety of specialized jigs, hand tools, and power equipment.

  • Defect Repair: Identifying and repairing minor wood defects using appropriate fillers, tools, and materials to ensure a seamless surface.

  • Safety Compliance: Maintaining a strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a secure work environment for yourself and your team.

  • Team Collaboration: Working effectively within a production team to consistently meet or exceed daily output goals and quality standards.

Requirements

Experience/Certifications/Education

  • Education: High school diploma or GED (preferred).

  • Experience: Previous experience in wood sanding, carpentry, or a manufacturing environment is a significant plus.

  • Attention to Detail: Ability to spot minor imperfections and a commitment to producing high-quality craftsmanship.

Abilities/Key Competencies/Skills

  • Must be able to work thoughtfully and thoroughly with continuous attention to detail

  • Must be able to stand, walk, stoop and bend for 8 or more hours daily

  • Ability to learn quickly and retain a wide range of small details concerning multiple product types, tasks, system processes, issues, and/or projects

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Comfortable multi-tasking, or, pivoting between tasks as the need arises

  • Willingness to learn new products, procedures, and processes as business needs change

  • A friendly attitude with the ability to deliver exceptional customer service and be a team player and stay self-motivated in a fast-paced environment

  • Frequently lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.; occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to work comfortably in noisy and dusty environments (appropriate PPE provided).
