As a Functional Safety Engineer, you’ll join a team dedicated to ensuring our vehicle systems operate safely and reliably in every condition. You’ll work closely with system and component owners across the development lifecycle to identify hazards, define safety concepts, and guide engineering teams toward robust, standards aligned solutions. We Take Care of Our Team
What You Drive at DTNA
Lead functional safety activities for assigned systems, applying ISO 26262 principles throughout the development lifecycle.
Collaborate with design teams, functional safety managers, and global FuSa experts to plan and execute safety work for projects across the NAFTA region.
Contribute to global Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA), providing regional technical expertise and ensuring alignment with local vehicle architectures and use cases.
Develop and maintain key safety work products, including safety concepts (FSC/TSC), impact analyses, safety plans, and safety case documentation.
Assess and validate safety mechanisms to ensure they meet functional safety requirements and perform as intended under fault conditions.
Ensure global safety concepts are suitable for regional implementation, recommending adjustments where necessary.
Support cross‑functional efforts to streamline processes, reduce waste, and improve efficiency within the functional safety lifecycle.
Partner with engineering stakeholders to support development, verification, and validation of ASIL‑capable E/E components and systems.
Knowledge You Should Bring
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, automotive engineering, computer science engineering, or a related technical field and 5-7 years of relevant experience is required.
At least 2 years of experience working in functional safety within automotive or commercial vehicle development.
Strong working knowledge of ISO 26262 principles and their application to E/E systems.
Strong working knowledge of requirements engineering and structured development processes
Familiarity with commercial vehicle systems such as propulsion, braking, and driver assistance features.
Experience with vehicle software and electronic component development processes.
Ability to travel internationally up to 20%.
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
Expertise in failure analysis techniques, including FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis.
Experience working with global engineering teams and managing region‑specific safety considerations.
Product knowledge of Daimler Trucks systems and architectures.
Background in systems engineering or model‑based system design.
Experience with vehicle simulation, modeling, or safety‑related analysis tools
