We are seeking a highly skilled Functional Safety Engineer/Lead to join our Application-Specific Microcontrollers (ASM) Business Unit at Texas Instruments. The ASM BU develops advanced microcontroller solutions for safety-critical applications, with a primary focus on automotive and industrial markets. Our portfolio includes high-performance MCUs designed for ADAS, body electronics, powertrain control, industrial automation, and motor control applications.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in functional safety standards and practices, with a proven track record in developing safety-critical systems for the semiconductor industry. This role requires strong coordination skills to manage 3P assessments (TÜV SÜD and similar certification bodies) and to lead cross-functional teams in developing Functional Safety work packages in accordance with project FuSa plans.

Required Qualifications Experience

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor functional safety

Technical Expertise

  • Practising knowledge of ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 standards
  • Proven experience in coordinating functional safety assessments with 3P assessors (TÜV SÜD, TÜV Rheinland, or equivalent certification bodies)
  • Strong track record of coordinating cross-functional teams to develop FuSa work packages according to Functional Safety Plans
  • Expert-level proficiency in developing safety collaterals, including:
    • FMEDA (Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis)
    • FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)
    • Safety Plan and Safety Concept development
    • Safety Case documentation
    • Fault-Injection analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate safety metrics:
    • SPFM (Single Point Fault Metric)
    • LFM (Latent Fault Metric)
    • FIT (Failures in Time)
  • Strong knowledge of safety architecture for microcontroller ASICs/SoCs

Professional Skills

  • Excellent external stakeholder communication skills, particularly with 3P assessors and certification bodies
  • Strong cross-functional team coordination and leadership abilities
  • Proven ability to manage multiple work streams and drive deliverables to completion
  • Experience in facilitating technical reviews and achieving consensus across diverse teams
  • Analytical problem-solving mindset
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Functional Safety Certified Professional (e.g., TÜV Certified Functional Safety Professional)
  • 10+ years of semiconductor industry experience
  • Experience with ISO 21434 (Automotive Cybersecurity) standard
  • Experience with safety-critical automotive or industrial systems
